    MI Artists All-State Juried Exhibition
  • MI Artists is a biannual exhibition at Studio 23/The Arts Center showcasing the current artwork by artists from across the state of Michigan. The body of work displayed is an energetic blend of abstraction and realism in a variety of mediums from our state’s talented and accomplished artists.

     

    Deadline for entry is 11:59pm, August 2, 2026.

    • Application and Exhibit Details 
    • Open to all Michigan artists 18 years of age or older. Works in all media and mixed media are eligible. Only original works completed within the past five years will be accepted. NO GICLEES, REPRODUCTIONS OR COPIES OF ORIGINAL ARTWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. Digital files submitted for jurying must be non-altered representations of the actual works to be considered for exhibition. Artworks previously exhibited in juried exhibits at Studio 23 are not eligible.

      Original art to be delivered to Studio 23 for 50 Artists exhibit: September 8 - 10, 2026, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

      Exhibition dates: September 17-November 7, 2026

      Artists’ reception: September 17, 2026, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

      Original art to be picked up from Studio 23: November 10-12, 2026, 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

      *Additional drop-off and pick up dates may be arranged with curator of exhibits as needed.

    • Meet our Juror

      Sarah Kohn
      Director and Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Flint Institute of Arts

    • Sarah Kohn has worked at the Flint Institute of Arts since 2013. She has held the position of Curatorial Assistant, Assistant Curator, Associate Curator, and now Director and Curator of Collections and Exhibitions. During her time at the FIA, she has curated and assisted in over 70 temporary exhibitions such as MI Ink: The Art of Tattoos, Minglings: A Journey Across Time, Monumental: The Art of Viola Frey, and From the Flame. She has also researched and written labels and audio guides for permanent collection objects, organized publications, and facilitated guest lectures and other exhibition programming.

      She has her MA in Art History from Wayne State University and BA in Art History and Visual Culture from Michigan State University. Prior to her role as Director and Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, Sarah taught art history for twelve years at Delta College, Mott Community College, and Saginaw Valley State University.

    • Awards

      A Best of Show cash award and awards of merit selected by our juror will be announced at the opening reception on Thursday, September 17.

    • Entry Fee

      $40.00 for current members of Studio 23

      $50.00 for nonmembers

      Applications will be processed when Studio 23 has received payment.

      Payments can be made by completing the PayPal payment at the bottom of this application, or by calling Studio 23 at 989-894-2323 after submitting your application.

       

    • Sale of Artwork

      Not for sale entries are limited to one per artist.

      If a piece is not for sale, it is marked NFS or designated as being in an owner’s collection. The insurance value is based on the retail price of the NFS item.

      All sales are consigned at sixty percent (60%) of sale price to the artist and forty percent (40%) of sale price to Studio 23. Tax is collected by Studio 23.

       

    • Application Requirements

      • A minimum of one image is required to submit application with a maximum of three artworks per artist.
      • Not for sale entries are limited to one.
      • Images submitted must be a JPG image with a maximum of 20MB file.
      • Images should be labeled as Name_Title.jpg. Example: Smith_Floral.jpg.
      • A brief artist biography of 50-60 words is required.
      • Applications will be processed when Studio 23 has received payment.

    • The following terms and conditions apply.

      By submitting this form, artist warrants that they have created and have unencumbered title to all artwork in the application.

      Artwork must be ready for the exhibit. Paint must be dry, and each piece should be identified on the reverse side or bottom. All wall-displayed works of art must be presented framed or gallery-wrapped. A framed work must have a wire on the back, French cleat, or appropriately sized sawtooth hanging hardware. No raw glass edges are acceptable. All other systems must be discussed with the curator of exhibits before a decision is reached.

      The gallery space may be temporarily rearranged for community events and/or classes during the invited artist’s scheduled exhibit.

       

      Delivery of Artwork:
      Artwork must be delivered to Studio 23 on the date listed above or agreed upon between the artist and the curator of exhibits. The cost of shipping artwork is at the artist’s expense.


      Period of Exhibition and Sale:
      Artwork accepted for exhibition and sale will be held for the full period of exhibition as determined by Studio 23.

       

      Insurance for Exhibits:
      Artist is responsible for the proper insurance coverage during the period of transportation and exhibition. Studio 23 is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to works of art while in its possession or on display, specifically, from the date of delivery to Studio 23 until the date of delivery to the purchaser or return to the artist.

      All reasonable care will be taken with artwork. We strongly suggest that artists insure their work privately for adequate protection in all potential situations.

       

      Liability:
      Studio 23 is acting solely as a representative of the artist, and neither it nor its members, employees, or board of directors shall be liable for loss or damage to artwork, storage crates, personal belongings, or other related items on the premises (or exhibited elsewhere within the sole discretion and under the control of Studio 23) due to theft, loss, fire, or destruction by any cause.

       

      Reproduction Rights:
      The artist reserves all rights of reproduction of consigned artwork. Studio 23 may publish photographs of all artwork for promotional and/or education purposes as it may deem appropriate.
       

      Publicity and Reception:
      Studio 23 will provide online marketing with social media that includes Facebook and Instagram. Our website, blog, and mass emails will also include promotion of the exhibit. Additional marketing materials will be determined as needed or as sponsors are obtained. Press releases will be sent to regional news outlets.

      An opening reception, with light food and beverages, will be provided. Reception will be Thursday, September 19, from 6-8 p.m.

       

      Sales:
      Not for sale (NFS) entries are limited to one. If a piece is not for sale, it is marked NFS or designated as being in an owner’s collection. The insurance value is based on the retail price of the NFS item.

      All sales are consigned at sixty percent (60%) of sale price to the artist and forty percent (40%) of sale price to Studio 23. Tax is collected by Studio 23. The artist should allow a minimum of three weeks beyond close of the exhibit (to allow for processing of all sales) before artist’s commission will be distributed.

      If a collector makes an inquiry with Studio 23 about a work after the close of the exhibit and the work is available for purchase, the artist will receive a sixty percent (60%) commission and a forty percent (40%) commission will go to Studio 23.

      Layaway:
      Studio 23 offers a layaway option for purchasing artwork. Purchasers make a minimum 25% down payment and sign a contract agreeing to make minimum payments of 25% of the total purchase price once a month for the following three months. Once payments are complete, the commission amount will be distributed to the artist.

       

      Return of Artwork:
      The return date of the artwork will be designated in the signed contract. If that date doesn’t work, the curator of exhibits and the artist will determine a workable date within the week following the close of exhibit. artwork shipped to Studio 23 for exhibit must include proper packaging and a return shipping label in order to be returned to the artist.

      Artwork that is left at Studio 23 beyond 30 days will be considered a donation to Studio 23.



      Hold Harmless Agreement:
      The artist agrees to hold Studio 23, its board of directors, staff, and volunteers harmless for damage, theft, or loss of artwork. The artist understands the risk of submitting/exhibiting artwork and accepts it through signing acceptance of the contract offered.
