Join Tim Smith, a seasoned tour guide, as he navigates us through the captivating exhibitions at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation.
The first exhibition, "Interwoven", showcases the works of Colombian artist Delcy Morelos (b.1967), whose art illuminates the intricate bond between humanity and nature. Utilizing natural materials such as textile, fibers, clay, and soil, Morelos prompts us to perceive the earth as a living organism rather than mere land to be possessed. This exhibition unveils paintings, sculptures, and installations spanning Morelos’s career, including exclusive pieces never before displayed in the United States. Additionally, Morelos created a must-see, immersive sculpture from locally-sourced soil exclusively for the Pulitzer’s galleries.
The second exhibition, "On Earth," features the creations of six artists who employ moving images to delve into the multifaceted relationships between humans and the natural world. Through film and video works, this exhibition casts land as a central protagonist, exploring themes of temporality, ritual, memory, territory, loss, and birth.
This enriching tour forms part of the Deaf Visual Arts Program, made possible through a collaborative effort between DEAF, Inc., the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, the Regional Arts Commission, and the Missouri Arts Council.
