Join disABILITYsa and our partners for an afternoon of film, connection, and community conversation inspired by disability rights leader Judy Heumann and the people who came together to demand change. This Conversation 360° experience pairs a community screening of Being Heumann with a locally focused discussion about access, independence, and belonging in San Antonio.
This experience is for people with and without disabilities. Whether disability is part of your everyday life, your family, your work, or something you want to better understand, your participation matters. Come ready to listen, share your perspective, and consider how we can build a community where everyone has the opportunity to participate.
Access is part of this event’s design, not an afterthought, and our planning considers people with physical and mobility disabilities, people who are blind or have low vision, people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, and people with cognitive disabilities or neurodivergent experiences. Planned supports include wheelchair-integrated and companion seating, step-free access, accessible restrooms, drop-off and paratransit information, and volunteers to help with wayfinding and seating. Communication supports include captions and audio description for the film, ASL interpretation, live captioning (tentative), assistive listening devices, and large-print, screen-reader-friendly, plain-language and ASL video materials. Sensory kits, a designated accessibility volunteer, and the freedom to move, take a break, or step out and return are also planned, and final availability will be shared before the event.
You are welcome to engage in the way that works for you; listening is participation, too.
