  • Discovery Education's student Coding Challenge is back for a second year!

In association with COBIS, we’re inviting British International schools to compete with their peers around the world to create their own app.

To participate, schools must register before Friday, 29th January 2021.

  • Sorry!

Registrations for this competition are now closed.

  • Children will gain a firm understanding of coding concepts like algorithms, sequences and variables – while practising computational thinking through problem-solving and the breaking down of tasks into logical steps.

  • The competition

Using Discovery Education Coding, students will be guided through a sequence of activities to familiarise themselves with the platform and develop their coding skills - before unleashing their creativity to design their own app!

Students can work individually or in groups of up to four. There will be two challenges, one for children aged 5-7 and one for ages 7-12.

  • Who can enter?

This competition is open to all COBIS schools. Recognising this is a challenging time for schools worldwide, a limited number of spaces are also available this year for FOBISIA, BSME, LAHC and AoBSO schools - allowing even more students to enjoy and benefit from this opportunity.

  • Prizes

We’ll be awarding prizes and certificates to six winners:

2x First prize: £250 Amazon voucher
2x Second prize: £150 Amazon voucher
2x Third prize: £100 Amazon voucher

  • How does it work?

For the duration of the competition, teachers and students will have full access to Discovery Education Coding. Teachers can use structured lessons to explore the fundamentals of coding or share the printable student guides, allowing children to practise coding at home.

You'll also be provided with ready-to-go competition resources, top tips for success and getting started information.

  • Competition dates

The competition will take place between
    13 January - 25 February 2021.

If you're registering in advance, you'll receive your competition access from 11 January 2021.

The winning apps will be announced
    by Thursday 22 April 2021.
