As digital technology continues to play an increasingly pervasive role in our daily lives, it is essential to examine its impact on different age groups within our community. In particular, understanding the use of digital technology by youth and older adults is of great importance. The prevalence of technology use among youth is well-documented, however, the adoption of digital technology among older adults has also been on the rise, albeit at a slower pace. This trend has significant implications for social inclusion, connectivity, and access to essential services.
One of our strategic goals at Divine Revelations Ministries, Inc. (DRMI) is to gain a better understanding of how youth and older adults perceive technology use and attitudes so that our DRMI Geeks & Gramps (grandparents) Program (G&GP) can make informed decisions about the development of inclusive, accessible training in digital solutions, help bridge the digital divide at a local level, as well as identify the potential benefits of technology in reducing social isolation and bridging the generational divide.
DRMI is a Tallahassee-based organization that offers a range of holistic humanitarian programs and services to the northwest Florida area. With a focus on holistic care and community support, DRMI is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of those we serve, especially in bridging generations and the digital divide with the G&GP. The G&GP is a technology-based initiative that brings together youth and older adults. The program aims to foster intergenerational connections by having young individuals (Geeks) mentor older adults (Gramps) in various technological skills.
This survey aims to explore the experiences and perspectives of both youth and older adults regarding the use of digital technology, with a focus on identifying barriers, facilitators, and opportunities for meaningful engagement through programs such as the G&GP. We seek to gather valuable data that will not only shed light on the current state of technology use within our community but also provide actionable insights for local policymakers, service providers, and technology developers.
By understanding the nuances of digital technology adoption across different age groups, we can work towards creating an inclusive digital ecosystem that empowers and connects individuals of all generations – thus helping us to meet the strategic goals of the DRMI Geeks & Gramps Program, now and in the future.
The survey is anonymous and should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Thank you in advance for your time!
