Interpret music into a work of art!
2026 Competition Theme: Create an original artwork inspired by Jean Sibelius’ Finlandia. This beautiful orchestral work reflects the majesty of the Finnish landscape and the independent spirit of its people. Finlandia will be featured in the DSO’s Symphonic Landscape concerts, February 28–March 1.

Art Exhibition: Friday, March 6, 2026 from 5-8pm hosted at the Dubuque Museum of Art in the Millwork District (1000 Jackson St, Suite 105). Selected works will be displayed in person at “The Color of Music” Exhibition, and all submissions will be featured digitally on-site and online.
Selection Process: Artwork will be reviewed and selected by a panel composed of representatives from the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra and the Dubuque Museum of Art. All applicants will be notified of their acceptance status via email.
Submission Deadline: January 26, 2026
Selected Works for Exhibition: Artwork Drop-Off (only if notified): March 2nd and 3rd, 2026 from 10am to 4pm at the Dubuque Museum of Art - 1000 Jackson Street, suite 105 (Millwork District)
Winning Works (only if notified): Artwork Drop-Off (only if notified): Works selected for the program features will need to drop works off by February 9th at the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. If you are selected, you will be contacted by khoeper@dubuquesymphony.org to set up a drop off time.
