By signing this agreement, you are waiving certain legal rights, including the right to sue.

Fosters will...

...care for the dog humanely (including providing adequate food, water, shelter, love, and attention).

... maintain dog in an adequate enclosed area or on leash at all times. 

…insist on training and good behavior. 

…provide an environment where the dog gets disciplined exercise. 

…expose the dog to the public (as the dog is ready for the experience). 

…maintain any medication schedule(s). 

…keep the dog secure. 

…make sure that the dog is always wearing identification. 

…supervise any interactions between the foster and other dogs. 

…supervise any interactions between the foster and children. 

...immediately notify East C.A.N. in the event of a missing or injured foster dog.

 

Fosters will NOT...

 ...allow the dog to roam at will.

 …give the dog to a new home without consulting East C.A.N.  We have procedures we take to ensure that the dog  ends up in a responsible home (adoption application, reference checks, adoption fees, 2-week trial period, etc.) 

 …expect East C.A.N. to pay for veterinary services about which we have not been consulted. 

 …perform DIY veterinary treatment without consulting East C.A.N. or a veterinary professional. 

 …bring the dog out in public before it is ready or in situations where it might cause a significant disturbance. 

 

East C.A.N. will… 

 …advertise the foster as much as possible. 

 …provide opportunities to show the dog to potential adopters. 

 …provide crate, food, vetting, medications. 

 …provide assistance with training. 

 …help find alternative care when you are out of town. 

 …oversee that the dog is adopted responsibly. 

 

East C.A.N. will NOT… 

 …guarantee a time-line for adoption. 

 …take responsibility for damage done to persons  or property. 

 …take the dog back without sufficient notice and time to arrange another suitable foster (unless there is a dangerous situation). 

I understand that my participation in fostering any dog affiliated with East C.A.N. includes an element of risk to me, my family members, other persons, and other animals. This risk includes but is not limited to: bites, illness, falls, disease, damage, and injury through contact with the foster/adopted dog; injuries or damage caused through contact with other foster or adoptive participants and/or their dogs, at any meetings of East C.A.N. at any designated location.

                I understand that participation by me in fostering a dog affiliated with East C.A.N. is voluntary. East C.A.N. makes no representations, guarantees or promises, implied or expressed, that any dog fostered or adopted through its organization is gentle, trained, or free of any dangerous propensities. It is fully understood that regardless of the training received by a dog, or the manner in which it is handled, a dog may possess the propensity to bite.

                It is with the understanding that East C.A.N. makes no representations as to the temperament or stability of any of its dogs and by signing this Waiver and Release, I agree that I will not seek to assign any liability or pursue any damages for injury caused by any dog that I foster or adopt through East C.A.N.

                I hereby expressly agree to indemnify and hold harmless East C.A.N., its representatives, agents, volunteers, and participants from any and all claims by any member of my family or any other person arising from interaction with a dog that I am fostering for East C.A.N.

                I hereby expressly agree to hold harmless East C.A.N., and its representatives, agents, volunteers, and participants from any liability whatsoever which may result from injuries or damages sustained as a result of my fostering a dog through East C.A.N., even though such liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of persons named in this Waiver and Release.

                I, and attending family members and guests, individually, and on behalf of their respective heirs, assigns or successors, hereby expressly waive, release and discharge East C.A.N. and its representatives, agents, volunteers, and participants from liability for any claims, demands, injuries, damages or causes of action that are in any way related to my participation in the fostering of any dog through East C.A.N., even though such liability may arise of out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this Waiver and Release.
