    $5000 Non-renewable Scholarship
  • The Educational and Charitable Foundation ("ECF") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which supports the Northern Virginia community, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Lambda Kappa Omega Chapter, by providing community services, educational programs, and philanthropic priorities.

    Applicant must reside in one of the following areas of Northern Virginia: Fairfax County, City of Fairfax, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Arlington County, City of Alexandria, City of Manassas, Manassas Park, and the City of Falls Church.

    • Applicant must be Black/African American, graduating in the class of 2025.
    • Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Applicant must show demonstrated leadership ability in the school and community.
    • Applicant must have participated in community service projects.
    • Applicant must attend an accredited college/university.

    Application Deadline

    All materials must be received on or before December 15, 2024.

    Completed applications shall include the following:

    • Current official student transcript that includes the most recent grades
    • Two Letters of Recommendation - One must be from a counselor or teacher.
    • Parental/Guardian Contact Information
    • 250-500 Word Essay Response

    The Estelle Gaymon Memorial Scholarship is meant to offset the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies or equipment for a graduating senior (U.S. citizens only) who will be a full-time college student beginning Fall 2025.

    Awards will be disbursed directly to the college or university in August 2025. Funds may be applied to offset books and other academic supplies.

  • Please provide us with a 250-500 word essay discussing the topic below:

    Describe the impact your community involvement and/or future educational advancements will have on the betterment of society through one of the following areas: Supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Women’s Healthcare and Wellness, Building an Economic Legacy, The Arts, or Global Impact.

    ECF values independent thought, contemplative rigor, and creativity. Applicants are expected to provide responses/essays developed without using advanced automated tools (artificial intelligence or machine learning tools such as ChatGPT or Dall-E 2). Applicants that use AI will not be considered.

     By applying for this scholarship/grant, you give ECF permission to use your photo and essay in traditional and social media communications for the purpose of marketing and promoting ECF programs and services.

    Award winners will be honored at our Annual Book Signing event, which will be held February 11, 2023 in Tysons, VA at the Capital One Hall. In order to avoid forfeiture of the award, winners or a representative must attend and be prepared to make a brief statement upon award acceptance.
