What attributes, opportunities, and characteristics are you looking for in a College for your son/daughter?
When creating a list of colleges to apply to, it is essential for your son/daughter and for us as counselors to understand your priorities as parents, regarding college options.

With this questionnaire, we hope to learn what is important to you, in order to support the student to develop a college list that is exciting for all members of the family.

HOW IMPORTANT IS EACH COLLEGE ATTRIBUTE

In this section, you will need to explain what aspects related to each college attribute are important to you. Please be thorough. The more information you provide, the better we will understand the type of colleges that are appropriate for your son/daughter.

COLLEGE ATTRIBUTES
ACADEMIC PROGRAMS - Major, Minors, Career Focus
Please explain what you consider will be your student's college major. What do you see them pursuing as a career track? What areas of study/courses are his/her best at present time? Are they considering a pre-professional program (like art, business, engineering, nursing, architecture, pre-med, pre-dental, pre-law, pre-pharmacy, other?) Be specific
COST - Financial Aid, Scholarships, Total Expenses
Please explain if you are flexible with cost or if your son/daughter must get into a college that costs XX amount or less in order to attend. Indicate your limit as a family regarding your total annual payment (up to $20K, $40K, $60K, +$80K). Let us know if you would send your student to a prestigious college at any cost or not. Please answer if you think your family could qualify for financial aid (need-based money). Be specific
PRESTIGE - Renowned College, Great Reputation
Please explain how important it is for you to send your son/daughter to a highly prestigious institution with a "brand" name. Will you choose a college for your son/daughter with a more prestigious name instead of one with a stronger program in your major? Which colleges with prestigious names are you considering for your son/daughter and why? Be specific
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION - Where it's OK and Where it's NOT
Please explain where you would like for the student to be located. Where NOT? How far from you and your family is fine? Would you like them to be located in a city? Which city? Close to a city? In a college town? Located internationally? In the Northeast, Midwest, South, or another region of the country? Not in a specific city? In places with a warm climate? Cold climate? What are the student's needs in terms of location? Be specific
SIZE OF COLLEGE/PROGRAM
Please elaborate on the ideal campus size for your son/daughter: up to 3K students, 10K, 20K, 30K, +40K, a HUGE college! Does college size matter to you and the student or not? Will they do well in a smaller or larger college, or will this not affect their performance? Be specific
ATHLETICS - Varsity, intramural, club sports
Please explain if your son/daughter is considering becoming a Varsity athlete or just practicing intramural/club sports, if they are particularly skilled in a special sport, if they would like to go to games and enjoy big-time athletics, or if this is not important. Be specific
CAMPUS LIFE - Clubs, Social/Academic life balance, Commuter College
Please explain if there's anything in particular you are hoping for your son/daughter to get as part of their campus life, will they want to have research opportunities, experiential learning, fraternities and sororities, are they interested in specific clubs like Robotics or Hispanic associations, will they live on campus, on their own or with you? Will they do well in a competitive environment? Collaborative? Do they thrive on pressure? Be specific
COLLEGE RELIGIOUS ENVIRONMENT - Affiliation, opportunities, interests
Please explain if you'd like your son/daughter to attend a college that has a religious affiliation (a religious college like a Jesuit or an Orthodox Jewish university, for example). Please state if your student has dietary restrictions (religious or other). What are your son/daughter's religious needs? Will you like them to attend a Women's only or Men's only college, or not? Be specific
SPECIAL PROGRAMS - Accelerated medical school, learning disabilities assistance, co-ops, work
Please explain if your student is considering an accelerated medical school program, if they will need resources for learning differences, if they'd like to engage in co-op programs, if they will need to work while they complete their college education, and anything else related to special programs. Be specific
