    2024 Summer VolunTeen Application

  • Attention Parents: We have found that the most successful VolunTeens are the ones who are enthusiastic about it! Please reconsider requiring your child to volunteer if they are not interested. This does not create a good experience for anyone!

  • Qualifications

    VolunTeens must...

    • be entering grades 8+ in the fall.
    • attend a 2024 Summer VolunTeen training session at the library.
    • agree to follow the Summer VolunTeen Rules and Expectations.

    Primary Duties

    • Hand out badges and prizes to kids and teens participating in the Summer Reading Challenge.
    • Help librarians during events, and with program set-up & clean-up.
    • Assist librarians with craft prep and other library projects as assigned.
    • Shelve books in the Children's Room.

    Summer VolunTeen Shifts

    • Most VolunTeens will work 1-2 shifts per week.
    • We do not allow VolunTeens to work more than 1 shift per day.
    • You will have the opportunity to choose your own shifts.
    • Shifts may take place both indoors and outdoors on the library grounds.

  • VolunTeen Rules & Expectations

    Please read carefully. A copy of these expectations will be emailed to your parent/guardian.
    • Be friendly and polite in your interactions with staff, volunteers, and patrons.
    • You are expected to work the shifts you have signed up for. If you are unable to attend a scheduled shift, please give at least 48 hours' notice.
    • Dress appropriately for the shift you are working.
    • Keep socializing to a minimum and refrain from using cell phones during volunteer shifts.
    • Respect patron privacy and understand the importance of confidentiality.
