  • A Note to Parents: Teens who are eager to volunteer tend to have the most fun and get the most out of the experience. We want this to be positive for everyone, so if your child isn't excited about volunteering, it may not be the right fit at this time.

  • Qualifications

    VolunTeens must...

    • be entering grades 8+ in September 2026.
    • attend a 2026 Summer VolunTeen training session at the library.
    • agree to follow the Summer VolunTeen Rules & Expectations.

    Primary Duties

    • Hand out prizes to kids and teens participating in the Summer Reading Challenge.
    • Help librarians during events, and with program set-up & clean-up.
    • Assist librarians with craft prep and other library projects as assigned.
    • Shelve books in the Children's Room.

    Summer VolunTeen Shifts

    • Most VolunTeens will work 1-2 shifts per week.
    • We do not allow VolunTeens to work more than 1 shift per day.
    • You will have the opportunity to choose your own shifts.
    • Shifts may take place both indoors and outdoors on the library grounds.

  • We occasionally use a free text messaging service called Remind to alert teens to shift changes, cancellations due to weather, etc. Which phone number should we use for these text message reminders?*
  • VolunTeen Rules & Expectations

    Please read carefully. A copy of these expectations will be emailed to your parent/guardian.
    • Be friendly and polite in your interactions with staff, volunteers, and patrons.
    • You are expected to work the shifts you have signed up for. If you are unable to attend a scheduled shift, please give at least 48 hours' notice.
    • Dress appropriately for the shift you are working.
    • Keep socializing to a minimum and refrain from using cell phones during volunteer shifts.
    • Respect patron privacy and understand the importance of confidentiality.
