Some political parties in Utah choose to close their primary elections. This means only voters affiliated with that party can vote in that party’s primary.

If you want to vote in a closed primary, you must affiliate with that party by the deadline set in Utah law (Utah Code 20A-2-107.5). This deadline can change from year to year. If you’re unsure, please contact our office at 435-755-1460.

Important to know:
- Party affiliation only matters for partisan primary elections in even-numbered years.
- It does not apply to non-partisan primaries or the November General Election.
- Ballot choice is only used for partisan primaries and allows voters to select an approved party ballot.
