  •  “The mission of the Arts Internship Program is to support students who face structural barriers with paid work experiences and mentorship opportunities in the arts that empower their self identity and help them build valuable skills to propel them through their future endeavors.”

Arts Internship Description: Exploring the Arts (ETA) is the nonprofit organization founded by legendary singer, Tony Bennett, and his wife, Susan Benedetto, a former public school teacher, to support arts education in public high schools. ETA's Arts Internship Program offers high school juniors from ETA Partner Schools the opportunity to intern one-on-one with professionals at arts organizations, businesses, and cultural institutions. Our program demystifies creative careers, helps students develop a professional skill set, inspires their ambitions within the arts and beyond, and supports their college and career readiness in and through the arts.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: This program is available only for 11th graders who attend an Exploring the Arts Partner School. Applicants will be selected based on their artistic interests, answers to application questions, grades, and schedule of availability. We encourage all students that have enthusiasm for a particular art form and want to grow to apply. Interns that are accepted must be able to work within the United States and will need to provide either an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification) number or a SSN (Social Security) number.

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS: All students applying to the Arts Internship Program must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to show proof of vaccination at the orientation session in November.

    PROGRAM TIMELINE:

Exploring the Arts’ Arts Internship Program places juniors as interns at arts organizations, cultural institutions, and art businesses for the duration of two school years:

YEAR 1: November 2025 – May 2026, with a holiday break in December

    SUMMER SESSION: July 2026

YEAR 2: September 2026 – May 2027, with a holiday break in December

Interns are paid a stipend for their work in the program. The breakdown is as follows: $400 in December 2025, $320 in March 2026, $400 in May 2026, $768 at the end of July 2026, $400 in December 2026, $320 in March 2027, $400 in May 2027. The total for successfully completing the entire two year program is: $3,008

Interns will work approximately 3-6 hours/week during the fall and spring semesters (approximately 12 hours/month) and must make a commitment to the entire 2-year program. Interns' pay will reflect a $16/hr rate that equals to 70 hours of work for the entire school year and 48 hours over the summer session.

Interns will create a work schedule in collaboration with their mentors for each semester (School Year 2025-2026, Summer 2026, and School Year 2026-2027). Interns are also required to attend ETA Orientations and ETA Program Activities, which will typically take place on Saturdays:

  • Exploring the Arts is excited to learn more about you as a creative individual and how this Arts Internship Program can help propel you towards your future endeavors.

    BEFORE YOU BEGIN

We are aware that some students may be using AI (Artificial Intelligence, like ChatGPT) to answer the written questions and/or creative responses (paintings, drawing, video, audio, etc.)  on the application. ETA uses these questions to get to know the students and understand their interest in the internship program. It’s important that we can learn about the student and see if they are a good fit for the program. We are not looking for perfection in your writing or creative work, we are looking for you.

Please be aware that if ETA staff are unable to use the answers to understand a student’s interests and motivations to apply to the program, and we feel the use of AI may be a reason for that, we may ask the student to resubmit their application.

Please note if you are submitting artwork or videos: ETA values students freedom of expression, and we encourage you to use your best judgement in selecting artwork to submit.
