Explore the Water from a New Angle: Kayaking at Riverside Marina
The Evolutionary Aquatics Kayak Program introduces paddlers to safe, confident kayaking at Riverside Marina. Whether you are brand new to paddling or want to build on past experience, this program focuses on water safety, sound paddling technique, and enjoying time on the water with a supportive community. All outings are led by Evolutionary Aquatics staff, and every paddler wears a life vest on the water.
What you'll learn
- Fit and wear a life vest properly, and understand why it is required every time you paddle
- Get in and out of a kayak safely from the dock and shoreline
- Hold the paddle correctly and use forward, reverse, and turning strokes
- Steer, stop, and control your kayak in changing water and wind conditions
- Stay balanced and know what to do if your kayak tips over
- Understand on-water safety, communication signals, and Evolutionary Aquatics procedures
Who should apply
Adults (18+) who want to enjoy the water by kayak, from first-time paddlers to those with prior experience. Swimmers, open water athletes, and anyone looking for a new way to stay active outdoors are welcome. Swimming ability is not a substitute for a life vest; every paddler must wear one.
Where it leads
Paddlers leave with the skills and confidence to kayak safely, enjoy recreational paddling, and support water activities such as open water swims. Kayaking builds upper-body strength, balance, and a lasting connection to the water.
