June 11, 2026 Symposium
Forgiveness as a Spiritual Need
Description: This symposium will address what “forgiveness” means and share several steps to help participants better understand how to address the spiritual need for forgiveness in themselves and the health care consumers they serve.
Scope and Standards: This symposium addresses FCN Scope and Standards: Standard 5:Health Teaching and Promotion: Teaches activities that strengthen the body-mind-spirit connection; Standard 7:Ethics:Demonstrates commitment to self-reflection and self-care.
Learning Outcomes: As a result of attending this symposium, participants will be able to:
1. Define forgiveness as an act and a practice.
2. Acknowledge its importance in spiritual wellbeing and spiritual care.
3. Identify steps in the process of forgiveness.
4. Discuss case studies pertinent to FCN practice and forgiveness.
Speaker Bio:
Mary Flood
Mary Flood is a teacher, facilitator and coach. In addition to two undergraduate degrees, she has completed both 9-month Forgiveness & Self-Mastery Intensives (Level I and II) through the Midwest Institute for Forgiveness Training in Minneapolis, MN and in 2004, she joined the organization as a trainer. She has also worked extensively with individuals and developed online and in-person classes, workshops and support groups through her own business, the Forgiveness Experience. Mary has presented the Unconditional Forgiveness model in venues ranging from Hazelden Betty Ford Renewal Center to the Minnesota Women’s Correctional Facility (Shakopee), including churches and places of worship, community centers, grief support groups, the University of St. Thomas psychology students, and as a guest lecturer at the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality and Healing.
