Summary:
Faith in Place is pleased to offer grants for houses of worship and faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in East Central Illinois to implement nature-based climate action projects during 2023. Eligible grant projects include planting native trees, restoring prairie, or other carbon-sequestration naturalized landscaping on properties owned by houses of worship or faith-based nonprofit organizations. Projects can be implemented in East Central Illinois cities, towns, and rural areas; and project sizes can range from small in-town lots to multi-acre sites. Grants are anticipated to range from $2,000 – $6,000. A total of 7-9 grants will be awarded.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for a grant, you must be:
- a house of worship (i.e., a church, synagogue, mosque, temple or another faith-institution) OR a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations (e.g., church camp, retreat center, etc.)
- located in one of the following eligible East Central Illinois counties: Bond, Champaign, Christian, Clark, Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Effingham, Fayette, Macon, Montgomery, Moultrie, Piatt, Sangamon, Shelby, or Vermilion
- have a nature-based climate action project idea that you want to implement in one or more of the eligible East Central Illinois counties
- own property where your project can be completed by early fall 2023
- your house of worship/faith-based organization must have an existing Green Team or be willing to start one during 2023
- must be willing to collaborate with Faith in Place to co-host at least two free community events (online or in person) about your project in 2023
- must be willing to track data about your project, including the number of volunteers involved, the number of acres impacted, and the number of trees and/or native prairie planted
- must be willing to submit a final project report to Faith in Place by September 15, 2023
