WHO can PARTICIPATE?
Workshops are open to anyone but are best for ages 9 to 99+.
Max 10 participants per workshop, Approximately 100 people will have direct hands-on interaction with this project. The presentation can be shared with whomever (i.e.Historical Society) and the Public Artwork’s impact could be endless for those who seek to learn more or visit Flemington.

WHAT will participants DO?
The workshop pottery made in the workshop will be inspired by the Stangl Birds of America, particularly the popular Stangl Pottery that was hand painted here in Flemington.
Participants will slip cast and paint pottery for a community made public art sculpture while learing a brief history of Stangl. All participants will be recieve credit for the public art peice.
*Wear clothing that you are comfortable to litfting, moving and painting in.

Keeping within the Stangl Arts and Culture District, the pieces will stay on campus, and be fired at Flemington Pottery.
WHEN is the WORKSHOP?
The monthly workshops will be held the second Saturday between November 2026 - April 2027 from 2-4pm EST. An invite only trial workshop will be held October 2026.
In May 2027, the project will culminate with the installation of pottery totem pole(s) featuring the Stangl inspired pottery birds created by the community throughout the workshops, giving credit to all those involved in the process.
WHY the STANGL WORKSHOP:
Flemington DIY is housed on the Stangl Arts and Culture District. Those who went to High School in Flemington before 1978 would go on field trips to Stangl to learn about Stangl Pottery, but Stangl’s history is no longer common local knowledge. The new Stangl Arts and Culture District signage leaves the passers by wondering “What’s Stangl?”. Meanwhile, older generations and collectors, that do remember Stangl come to this Arts and Culture District seeking Stangl Pottery walk into Flemington Pottery looking for Stangl Pottery and not understanding that the space now hosts the potters of today. There is a desire for more Stangl info, this workshop is a way to pay homage to those artisans before us. Through creating this Public Art sculpture in the workshops, we will build up our current creatives while educating the community in a way that honors those that worked at this creative campus.
