  • Squamish CAN Grow Gardens Code of Conduct

  • The Squamish CAN Community Garden Code of Conduct is designed to keep the garden a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all members. Failure to adhere to the code of conduct may include but is not limited to: a verbal and/or written warning, the immediate loss of your garden plot, or a complete ban from the gardens.
    1. Garden plots must be consistently maintained, including planting, weeding, and harvesting. The Garden Manager will issue a warning about neglected plots. Plot holder must attend to their plot within 2 weeks. If a gardener is issued 2 warnings within the year, the plot will be reassigned at the Garden Manager's discretion.
    2. Gardeners must follow organic gardening practices. Do not use chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or weed repellents.
    3. Please harvest promptly. Leaving produce to rot is wasteful, and an attractant to pests and spreads disease. It may also attract thieves into the garden.
Gardeners must not reassign or change plots without speaking with the Garden Manager. Failure to communicate with the manager could result in the loss of garden privileges.
    4. No smoking/vaping, alcoholic beverages, or illegal drugs are permitted on any garden premises.
    5. Invasive plants (mint, oregano, etc.), perennials, cannabis, and berries (bear attractants) are not permitted. If planted, Garden Manager will request immediate removal.
    6. Well-mannered, leashed dogs are allowed in the garden. Dogs must remain under the control of their owner at all times, and owners must clean up after their pets. Any complaints will result in the loss of privileges.
    7. Winter clean up is required. Gardeners must be clean up and/or mulch their plots before the end of the season.
    8. Gardeners will respect their fellow members. Be helpful and courteous at all times. Physical or verbal behaviour that is profane, abusive, aggressive, intimidating, threatening, harassing, or violent will not be tolerated. It will result in an immediate ban from the garden premises.

I have reviewed, understand, and agree to abide by the policies relative to the use of the Squamish CAN Community Gardens and understand that use of the community gardens may be denied if guidelines are not followed. I agree to hold harmless Squamish CAN and owners of the land for any liability, damage, loss or claim that occurs in connection with the garden's use by me or any of my guests.
