In order to be considered for membership with KCC I understand:
- I must have a good credit rating
- I must have 3 years of driving history
- I must have had no at-fault accidents in the last 3 years
- I must have 3 or fewer road tickets in the last 3 years
- I must have no criminal convictions under the motor vehicle act
Allowances to these requirements may be granted by special request to the Board of Directors.

Instructions and Guidelines
The below agreements contain important information about how to use the Kootenay Carshare service. It is essential that each new driver carefully reviews and follows all guidelines to ensure respect for our vehicles, staff, and fellow members.

Please take note of the guidelines below and keep them on hand.
I Agree to:*

Inspect the vehicle before and after each trip, record findings on the checklist inside the vehicle.Return gas-powered vehicles with at least half a tank of fuel, and leave fuel receipts in the designated envelope for reimbursement.Return vehicles on time, to the designated location, and with enough time to complete the end-of-trip checklist. I will extend my booking if needed and available.
I Agree not to:*

Leave vehicles unlocked or share passcodes.Smoke, allow unrestrained pets, or use phones or distracting devices while driving.Allow non-members to drive KCC vehicles.
Violations of these Kootenay Carshare Cooperative rules will result in a $10 fine. Repeated violations will result in suspension of driver privilege.

Membership Type
There are two types of personal memberships: Full, and Casual:
- As a Full member, you become a member-owner of the cooperative. You hold a share in the organization and gain voting rights at our Annual General Meetings.
Additional benefits include:

Lower rates on hourly and daily usage

Option to join our Emergency Evacuation List : if you choose to opt in, you may be eligible to use a KCC vehicle in the event of a regional emergency
- As a Casual member, you receive full access to drive and book vehicles but are not co-op owners.
A one-time, non-refundable $35 application fee is required for both membership types. This fee must be paid by credit card through our secure Helcim payment form.

Full Membership Contract
As a Full member and driver of the Kootenay Carshare Cooperative:

I agree to observe and be bound by both the Rules and Manual including any amendments to either document or additions of any Policies & Procedures. They form part of this contract. I recognize that Kootenay Carshare Cooperative’s Board of Directors may amend the Manual, and that members of KCC may amend the Rules.

If my application is accepted, KCC will be subject to all the terms and conditions in the Manual, Rules, Policies and this application which states:

The Kootenay Carshare Cooperative will provide me with access to vehicles owned or rented by it (“KCC vehicles”), and pay for KCC vehicle related expenses such as gas, tires, maintenance and certain repairs.

I understand that KCC will endeavour to ensure vehicles are clean, reliable and well maintained and will periodically inspect KCC vehicles.

I understand that Full membership requires a $500 refundable share purchase or a $250 refundable share purchase for an Associate member.

However, I recognize that:
- Members share responsibility for the maintenance and safety of KCC vehicles;
- KCC’s periodic inspection of vehicle is supplementary to the inspection of vehicles by members;
- As a member I will be responsible for ensuring the safe condition of any KCC vehicle which I drive; and
- KCC does not make any representations or warranties as to the fitness or condition of any KCC vehicle.
I recognize that the Manual, Rules and Policies state when I will be responsible for paying various fees, expenses, liens, and fines. I agree that this money will be a debt due and payable to KCC and that KCC will have a lien on my shares to cover the full amount owing. Any amount due and payable may be set off against my share balance, and will only be restored once all debts have been paid. (For Associate Members, debts due and owing to KCC will also form a lien against the shares owned by their Full Member Partner, and for Full Members with a partner who is an Associate Member, debts due and owing by the Full Member will also form a lien against the shares owned by their partner.

I understand that I must pay my invoice balance on time to avoid penalties and interest accrued on the previous balance. Balances past due in excess of $30 will begin to accumulate interest at a rate of 2.2% monthly, and balances over $200 will risk suspension.
If payment is not received by the due date my Credit Card on file will be charged immediately without prior notice, and a $40 administrative fee will be applied.

The late payment policy, fees and interest rates are subject to change.

I understand that personal information including my name, telephone number and email address will be visible to other members of the Kootenay Carshare Cooperative to facilitate all members’ vehicle usage.

I understand that KCC will ensure that Co-op vehicles are insured for liability, the details of which are available from KCC.

I recognize that KCC will only be liable to me for any damages arising out of my use of a KCC vehicle if KCC’s gross negligence has caused the damages. I waive any right I have to sue or make claims against KCC and its directors, officers, employees or members for damages arising from the fitness or condition of a KCC vehicle, except in cases of gross negligence. I also waive any right I have to sue or make claims against KCC and its directors, officers, employees or members for a vehicle not being available at the time it was booked.

Emergency Evacuation list

Kootenay Carshare maintains an optional list of Full members who may need a ride during a community evacuation:

Tier 1: I do not own a vehicle and am unlikely to have another ride and I most certainly need the Carshare to evacuate.

Tier 2: I do not own a vehicle and may have another evacuation option, but Carshare would be my backup plan.

Associate Membership

Kootenay Carshare offers an associate membership linked to a Full Membership.

As an Associate member, your membership must be tied to an existing Full member, and both members share responsibility for vehicle use, fees, and debts (see Manual, Rules, and Policies) and requires a $250 refundable share purchase.

Casual Membership Contract
As a Casual member and driver of the Kootenay Carshare Cooperative:

I agree to observe and be bound by both the Rules and Manual including any amendments to either document or additions of any Policies & Procedures. They form part of this contract. I recognize that Kootenay Carshare Cooperative’s Board of Directors may amend the Manual, and that members of KCC may amend the Rules.

I understand that my status as a Casual Driver does not include the benefits and rights of a Full Membership. Any use of the term "casual member" henceforth or elsewhere in KCC documentation is meant for ease of communication and does not imply or grant status to full membership of the cooperative. I understand that as a Casual Driver, I am able to access the booking calendar through the member login portal and I am able to book and use KCC vehicles. I understand that my usage rates will be higher than those of a Full Member and can be referenced on the carsharecoop.ca website in case they should fluctuate.
I understand that I do not own a share in the cooperative, I do not have member voting rights, and I declare any other discrepancies between membership types acceptable by signing and submitting the application form.

I agree that this money will be a debt due and payable to KCC and that KCC is authorized to bill the payment card on file as per the invoice policy outlined below.

I understand that I must pay my invoice balance on time to avoid late payment penalties and interest accrued on the previous balance. I acknowledge that as a Casual member, I am not permitted to carry an outstanding balance on my account.
If payment is not received by the due date my Credit Card on file will be charged immediately without prior notice, and a $40 administrative fee will be applied. Furthermore, my driving privileges will be suspended until full payment is received and the account is brought back into good standing.

The late payment policy, fees and interest rates are subject to change.
