  • Fred Hutch Girls Who Code Fall 2025 Application

  • Want to learn to code in a fun and inclusive environment? We’re accepting applications for the 2025 Fall session of Girls Who Code at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center!

Girls Who Code is a national organization “on a mission to close the gender gap in technology”. The Fred Hutch Girls Who Code club is run by women/non-binary computational biologists at the University of Washington and Fred Hutch who are passionate about teaching and helping people learn about computer science and bioinformatics. Girls Who Code welcomes individuals from all backgrounds into our community and programs.

This fall, the Fred Hutch Girls Who Code club will be held in-person for 6 weeks at the Fred Hutch starting October 14, 2025. Each session will be kept small (maximum 10-15 students) to facilitate group work. This fall we will be working in small groups to explore computational biology concepts in Python. We will also have additional opportunities (e.g. virtual field trips or speakers) to learn more about careers that utilize programming and data analysis skills.

You are eligible to join us if you:

    • Are in high school (the program is typically the best fit for sophomores and juniors, but applications are also welcome from seniors)
    • Are interested in learning about coding, computational biology, and bioinformatics
    • Are available Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm October 14, 2025 – Dec 2, 2025 (no club meeting Nov 25) for in-person sessions at Fred Hutch (you can ride the bus for free with your school ID or you can request a youth ORCA card). There will be an optional field trip the week of Veterans’ day (11/11).

We look forward to receiving your application!

All applications received before October 10 are guaranteed review. After this date, we will leave the application open through our first meeting or until all spots are filled. Our first meeting is on October 14. We look forward to meeting you!
