Curious about coding? Check out Fred Hutch Girls Who Code!
Fred Hutch Girls Who Code is a club that will teach you the core concepts of coding, while building confidence and community. No prior experience coding is needed! Whether you've never written a line of code or you're ready for a challenge, you’re welcome here.
This fall, the Fred Hutch Girls Who Code club will be held in-person for 8 weeks at the Fred Hutch starting October 27th, 2026. Each session will be kept small (maximum 10-15 students) to facilitate group work. This session, we will be working in small groups to explore bioinformatics. You'll work in small groups with other students, learning Python by solving real computational biology problems. Along the way, you'll get to know mentors with diverse career tracks including computational biology, tech industry, scientific journalism, and more. The group will discuss important topics like gender parity and AI ethics, and will be provided with lots of local resources available to high schoolers to support your academic journey.
You are eligible to join us if you:
- Are in high school (the program is typically the best fit for sophomores and juniors, but applications are also welcome from seniors)
- Are interested in learning about coding, computational biology, and bioinformatics
- Are available Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00 pm October 27, 2026 – December 15, 2026 for in-person sessions at Fred Hutch (you can ride the bus for free with your school ID or you can request a youth ORCA card).
Apply by Oct 23 to be guaranteed review. After this date, the applications will stay open through the second week of the program or until spots are filled. We look forward to meeting you!
