    Basic Carbine is an introductory rifle course designed to build safe, effective, and responsible carbine handling skills. This class covers firearm safety, carbine operation, loading and unloading procedures, stance and shooting fundamentals, sight alignment, target transitions, reloads, and malfunction clearing. Students will also learn how to safely manipulate and maintain their rifle while developing confidence and accuracy on the range. This course combines classroom instruction with practical range exercises in a supportive, safety-focused environment and is open to students of varying experience levels. AR-15 style rifles are primarily used, though other carbine platforms may be accommodated.

  • Registration Requirements: None, this class is open to club members and non-members.

    Class Prerequisite: None, but this class is a prerequisite for the more advanced courses. If you have never shot before, are a beginner, or new gun owner, we encourage you to take our Intro to Firearms class.

    Class Requirements:

    • State land requires a conservation license. A conservation license can be purchased on the FWP website for $8.00.
    • Students are encouraged to provide their firearms. If they do not own one, the club may be able to provide a loaner for the class.

    Lecture Class Requirements:

    • Firearm (in a range bag)
    • 2 mags
    • Sling (optional)
    • Leave ammunition either in your car for lecture class
    • Sack Lunch

    Range Class Requirements:

    • Magazine carriers/pouches (optional)
    • 300 rounds of ammo per person (Better to have more rather than less)

    Class Location: Class location will be provided upon registration confirmation.

    Class Fee: $50.00

    I acknowledge that participation in firearm-related education and training involves inherent risks, including but not limited to personal injury, property damage, or other harm. I voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation in this class and related activities.

    2. Release and Hold Harmless Agreement

    I hereby release and hold harmless Gallatin Community Gun Club (GCGC), its officers, directors, instructors, volunteers, partners, and affiliates from any and all claims, liabilities, demands, or causes of action arising out of or related to my participation, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.

    3. Nature of Instruction and Participant Responsibilities

    I understand that this class is educational in nature and does not constitute individualized firearms training or legal advice. I agree to follow all safety rules, instructor guidance, and range protocols.

    4. Legal Eligibility to Possess Firearms

    I certify that I am legally permitted to possess and handle firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws.

    5. Emergency Medical Authorization

    I grant permission for emergency medical treatment if necessary and understand I am responsible for any related costs.

    6. No Recording Policy

    I understand that no recording (audio or video) is permitted during class sessions.
