  • Mu Alpha Theta Application for Membership

  • "Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. As of June 2017, more than 110,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,400 schools in the United States and in 20 foreign countries."

    If you would like to apply for Membership in Greene County High School’s Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, please indicate that by completing this “Application for Membership” and obtaining 2 references from teachers (one from a former or current teacher).

    High school students in grades 9 through 12, who have completed Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II with Statistics, and in addition are currently enrolled in a more advanced course, are eligible for full membership provided their mathematical work was done with distinction (at least a 85 average).  It is an honor to be selected for membership in this organization which has chapters across the United States and in some foreign countries. 

    Please submit your completed form using the link, your dues $25.00, and references by September 29, 2025. Dues can be paid on MySchoolBucks or you can pay me directly. Be sure to get the completed application, references, and dues in by the due date! If your application is not approved, dues will be returned.

  • MEMBERSHIP RULES

    1. I have completed a minimum of 3 math courses with distinction, and would like to apply for full membership in Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics National Honor Society.
    2. I have no other integrity, discipline, or academic issues identified by members of the Greene County High School's staff or administration which would be incompatible with membership in a National Honor Society.
    3. I would like to be an active member supporting the organization's activities such as monthly meetings, tutoring program, Induction Ceremony, and participating in math-related activities such as fundraising, attending math programs, participating in math contests/trips, and earning a minimum of 24 service hours for the school-year. 
    4. I would maintain an 85 average or above for mathematics classes for all subsequent years of membership.
    5. I understand that $25 dues includes $10 national dues and $15 local dues (includes a t-shirt & honor cord (if applicable)). Fees must be paid with application.  
    6. I understand as a member, I'm required to do 1 fundraiser that will raise $50 for the local school Mu Alpha Theta (for scholarship and other items).
