The Vizzening (Viz-a-GoGo 23)
Submission Procedure
READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!
DEADLINE: Wednesday, May 4th at 9:00am
This is a hard deadline!
Only work submitted before this deadline has a chance of being in the show.
Submissions may be juried by TAs to keep the total length of the show to one hour.
Why the early deadline if the show is not until the 7th? Former students working at various studios view a draft of the show and play a role in selecting scholarship recipients based on work shown in Viz-a-GoGo. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the screening Saturday night.
Before you begin, ask your instructor if your work will be submitted as part of a class-reel. If so, you do not have to submit your work as an independent project. When in doubt, ask.
Submitting work is a three step process.
---------------------------------------------
Step 1: Render Your Video File Properly
Step 2: Name Your Video File Properly (lastname_title_classnumber)
Step 3: Complete the Submission Form with Your Video File Attached
-----------------------------------------------------
Step 1: Render Your File Properly
The show reel will be HD 1080p at 23.97 fps.
We will accept AVI, or MOV files. If you submit compressed files, use the following settings!
If you are rendering from After Effects:
In the Render Queue, under Output Module, choose Format: Quicktime. In Format Options, set your Video Codec to "Photo - JPEG." (Quality can even be set to 90 without any noticeable change if you want to keep your file size down.)
If you are doing audio as well, be sure to check the Audio Output box and under Format Options set your Audio Codec to AAC.
Then hit Render.
If you are exporting/rendering from Premiere Pro:
In the Export Settings, set your Format to H.624 and in the Presets choose "YouTube HD 1080p 23.976." This preset will produce a high-quality video file while still maintaining and small and manageable file size. (There is no need to check "Use Maximum Render Quality" with these settings.)
The hit "Export" to render from Premiere Pro or "Queue" to render from Adobe Media Encoder.
Test your video. If you see a ghosting effect when objects in your animation move, check to make sure you don't have any frame-blending settings turned on.
-----------------------------------------------------
Step 2: Name Your File
Use the following file-naming convention!!! Not only will it help during the editing process, it is also used to maintain an archive of student work.
lastname_title_classnumber.extension (all lower-case, no spaces)
For example, if Jane Smith was going to submit a MOV file of her animation called "My Journey" for 405, she would name her file:
smith_myjourney_405.mov
If multiple people worked on the project, just put the last name of the person who submitted it (and make sure that the other people involved are listed in the credits of the animation/video).
If the full title is too long to put in a file name, put a "representative" title that is descriptive enough that we know what the file is. Make sure the full title is somewhere in the body of the piece.
If the piece is from outside of a class, put "_indy" instead of"_classNumber".
If you are a TA submitting a class reel, name it
"class_reel_classNumber.extension"
Submit your projects ASAP. If we encounter a problem importing your file into the final timeline, we want as much time as possible to correct it.
If you have any questions, or need help getting your files transferred, let us know by sending an email to help@viz.tamu.edu
If you want something to appear in the show, but your project isn't 100% complete, you can submit a "work in progress" version.
NO PROJECTS MAY BE SUBMITTED BEYOND THIS DEADLINE.
DON'T EVEN ASK. Seriously, don't ask.
