About Trent "Bear" Rice
Trent "Bear" Rice is a multidisciplinary martial artist, holding six black belts and senior ranks across Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, Kendo, Iaido, Filipino Escrima, Okinawan Kobudo, and Jissen Budo International.
Bear began his BJJ journey under his Karate instructor, Sensei Glenn Sandford, before being introduced to Australian BJJ pioneer John Will, with whom he has trained for over 20 years.
He has competed and medalled at State and National level throughout every coloured belt division, culminating in Gold in the Black Belt Open Weight Division at both the Arnold BJJ Classic and the Will-Machado Asia Pacific Championships (The Gathering).
While those achievements are impressive, they aren't what define Bear.
He is widely respected for his ability to teach—breaking complex techniques into simple, practical details that students of all levels can understand and immediately apply.
As Bear says:
"No knowledge is truly your own until you can give it away."
Whether you're a white belt or a seasoned competitor, you'll leave with new details, concepts, and a deeper understanding of one of BJJ's most effective positional tools.
🥋 Open to all affiliations and experience levels.
