Guåhan Sustainable Culture (GSC) is a local nonprofit dedicated to strengthening food security and environmental sustainability through youth and community education, direct support to local farmers and food entrepreneurs, and collaborative partnerships. In November 2024, GSC purchased the 50-acre Hamamoto Gardens property, protecting agricultural land and establishing the island’s first Food Resiliency Hub. The tour includes aquaponic systems, a learning center, nursery, community pavilion, and a 45-minute nature path through 17 acres of fruit forest—illustrating commitments to land stewardship, cultural revitalization, and sustainable agriculture on Guåhan.

åmot walk + discussion: a workshop on healing + community wellness — with Yo’åmte Lourdes “Mama Lou” Manglona and Yo’åmte Susan Aguon
Location: G3 Makerspace Green Store, CHamoru Village STE 120
Conference participants are invited to center and ground our collective work in healing the land and our community ahead of the 7th Marianas History Conference. Within the theme “One Archipelago, Many Stories: Weaving Stories of Land & Lineage,” this workshop encourages reflection on åmot (medicinal plants)—what they are and their uses—alongside conversation about our relationship to the land and its impact on future generations. Using åmot as a prompt, participants consider the meaning of healing today, challenges to healing, and the future of traditional medicine in the Marianas. Begins with a special blessing by Gi Matan Guma’ and concludes with light refreshments.
Held in partnership with Humanities Guåhan × Micronesian Climate Change Alliance × Gi Matan Guma’ × Para i Hinemlo i Taotao.
