  • 2025 Program Details:

    Gather your community and get ready to celebrate "Stories Under the Stars!" Idaho Family Reading Week invites families to cozy up with twinkling tales, bedtime adventures, stargazing stories, and nocturnal animals—all in the spirit of reading after dark.

    The ICfL will provide themed materials to the first 100 Idaho libraries that register their FRW events via the event form from September 15 - October 15. The ICfL will provide themed give-away paperback books, custom activity booklets, and bookmarks. The rest is up to you and your library staff - and the sky is the limit! The ICfL focuses the program theme, materials, and supplies on kids ages preschool through 6th grade, but library staff are welcome to incorporate books and activities for older kids or teens on your own.

    All Idaho libraries, whether they register for one of the 100 program spaces or not, may utilize the following resources from the FRW website:

    • Idaho Family Reading Week themed artwork: downloadable posters/flyers, activity booklets, Facebook/website banners, letterhead, proclamation and press release templates;
    • Google Choice Slides (4) full of related resources, educator guides, and lots of ideas for extension activities;
    • Idaho Digital E-Book Alliance (IDEA) e-book list created specifically for FRW;
    • Recommended themed reading lists, storytime outlines, and parent handouts that support early literacy skills and are related to the "Stories Under the Stars" theme.

    All resources can be found at: https://libraries.idaho.gov/outreach/idaho-family-reading-week-2025/

  • Themed Give-Away Books - Request Info - Important Please Read:

    We have several fun, literacy and night-themed materials to provide to each registered library this year. Please read through this entire description & request limits BEFORE you complete your request in the table below:

    1) Each registered library will receive themed, paperback books to give away to youth participants who attend your FRW events.  In an effort to try to provide one  book to every participating child (up to 10,000 statewide), ICfL has developed the following book bundles and request parameters for your libraries to use as guide when requesting your paperback books. Note: Each book bundle includes books for a variety of ages preK - 6th grade. If you are ONLY serving one specific age-group, please add that in a note below.

    • Small Bundle: for public/tribal libraries serving population size 5,000 or less and school libraries serving 100 students or less = 40 paperback books.
    • Medium Bundle: for public/tribal libraries serving population size 5,000 to 20,000 and school libraries serving 101 - 300 students = 60 paperback books.
    • Large Bundle: for public/tribal libraries serving population size more than 20,000 and school libraries serving more than 300 students = 90 paperback books.

    NOTE: Each branch of a library district can request paperbacks for the amounts listed above.

    For population size numbers of public libraries, please use the FY2024 Public Library Statistics Report published by ICfL found here: https://libraries.idaho.gov/idaho-library-statistics/  (Excel doc; Column F).

    2) In addition, we have a bundle of 9 transportation-themed English/Spanish bilingual books for those libraries serving Spanish-speaking families. This is a seperate request in the table below. Libraries should request what they need and we will distribute the bilingual books as equally as possible amongst the requesting libraries.
