  • About the David V. Reader Sr. Scholarship: 

    The Scholarship honors the legacy of David Vernon Reader Sr. by investing in the academic success and future opportunities of outstanding students. This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service. Its purpose is to reduce financial barriers and support recipients as they pursue higher education, continue personal growth, and work toward becoming leaders in their communities carrying forward the values of integrity, resilience, and service exemplified by David Reader Sr.

    The Scholarship is a 1-year scholarship grant* of up to $3,000 for the school year, based on need and academic standing, to be awarded to the scholarhsip you must demonstrated:

    • Must be a graduating high school senior
    • Must attend Grimsley High School or Dudley High School 
    • Must plan to enroll in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university, or trade/technical program
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0 (or higher)
    • Must demonstrate leadership, strong character, and positive involvement in school or community
    • Must have a record of community service or volunteer involvement
    • Must submit a short essay
    • Must submit one letter of recommendation (teacher, counselor, coach, or mentor)
    • Must provide proof of acceptance/enrollment before funds are awarded
    • Must be actively involved in athletics, academic or service organizations, or other school-sponsored activities that demonstrate commitment and engagement beyond the classroom.
    • Must provide University/college acceptance letter
    • Must provide Student ID number provided via official notice from the University/College

    The application will be selected by members of the ASNF Advisory Board of Directors.

    Essay #2 - Describe why you need this scholarship.  **300-word max

    Essay #3 - In 100 words or less, describe which what programs or services (such as mentorship, tutoring, workshops, community service opportunities, college application assistance, or college visits) have been most beneficial in helping you prepare for college, and explain how they supported your journey.

     In submitting this application, I hereby certify the following:

    1.     I am in need of this scholarship aid as set forth in this application. 

    2.     I understand that ASNF will pay the scholarship funds directly to my educational institution and that only tuition for credit courses and/or campus housing will be paid. 

    3.     I agree to provide ASNF with a copy of my tuition bill with my student ID/account number. 

    4.     I understand that this scholarship will not be retained if my cumulative GPA falls below 2.75.

    5.     I hereby certify that all of the information I have provided within the entire scholarship application is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I understand that if any information submitted with the scholarship application is determined to be false or mislead­ing (including any omission of material information), I will be disqualified from consideration for the scholarship.

    Finally, I give consent to allow ASNF use a photograph (or other likeness), as well as personal information about me (name, school, hometown), or statements for publicity purposes, which may include, but is not limited to, social media platforms, brochures, and the ASNF website.
