This workshop on Ancestral Healing is the second in a series that delves deeper into topics raised last May in an Interhelp event exploring Louise Dunlap's recent book, Inherited Silence: Listening to the Land, Healing the Colonizer Mind. Attendance at earlier events in the series is not necessary. You're welcome to attend one, two, or three of the workshops but you must register independently for each one. This registration form is just for the October 20th workshop. Registration for the final November 17th workshop on Reparations is open via interhelpnetwork.org/events. A recording of the September 22 workshop on Listening to the Land is available from Interhelp upon request (email interhelp@interhelpnetwork.org with that request).
We will follow the spiral of the Work That Reconnects, weaving together dialogue between Louise, Aravinda Ananda and workshop participants with interactive practices including reflection prompts in breakout rooms and simple rituals. We'll explore ways of thinking and learning about ancestors, their roles in the violence of colonization, and many pathways to healing. We'll welcome one guest presenter, Hilary Giovale--whose new book will launch October 1st. Becoming a Good Relative: Calling White Settlers Toward Truth, Healing and Repair is available for preorder at https://bookshop.org/p/books/becoming-a-good-relative-hilary-giovale/20196006?ean=9798987663172.
If you have time before the workshop, you may want to review what you know about your lineage. When and from where did the various streams of your people arrive on this continent and where did they settle? What do you know about their relationship to the land? To the Indigenous Peoples? The violence of colonization? Enslavement? Do you know anything about your ancestors' lives BEFORE they immigrated? Before their own people were colonized? Do you see places where healing might be needed?
Given the interactive nature of this workshop, it is best if you are able to attend for the entire event, but most especially to arrive for the beginning.
In lieu of payment for registering for this event, please consider contributing to an Indigenous effort or organization in your local area. More information about opportunities for this will be shared during the workshop.
