2020 ROSTER PROTEST FOR STATE TOURNAMENT TEAMS
Protest Deadline: Monday 5pm week of the State Tournament
Iowa USSSA Baseball State Office has revised freezing rosters for the 2020 State Tournament participation.
After talking with other State Offices that have already played their state tournaments and also listening to our Iowa Teams, the Iowa State Office will NOT freeze rosters for the entire 2020 season. The State Office wants to make sure teams are able to add players to their roster due to this year's unpredictable COVID-19.
Rosters WILL NOT be frozen before the 2020 State Tournaments.
Since rosters are not frozen, players can be on multiple rosters. For example; a 12 year old player may be on a 12AAA roster and also on a 12AA roster.
Players that are currently on rosters (and have played with their team throughout the season) will not be penalized for also being on a higher classification team.
New adds will be held to a different standard for State. Only players of equal classification can be added to a team's roster that is participating at the State Tournament.
The State Office will not allow a team to pick up a player of higher classification before the state tournament.
Adding a player for a State Tournament should not be added just to gain an advantage or improvement.
Teams cannot add a player of history of a higher classification just for the State Tournament.
Examples of acceptable roster adds:
Major teams may add any Major, AAA, AA or A players to roster for State
AAA teams may add any AAA, AA or A players to roster for State
AA teams may add any AA or A players to roster for State
A team may only add A players to roster for State
NOTE* Players that are currently on a roster and have been there throughout the season will not be penalized for also being on a higher classification team.
Example of acceptable roster:
A team is classified as AA. This AA team's roster includes a player that also plays on a AAA team. This player was added early in the season and has played with team throughout the season. This player is eligible to participate on the AA Team at the State Tournament and also the AAA Team at the State Tournament.
PROTESTING A ROSTER
Teams will have the ability to protest online rosters for teams participating in a State Tournament.
Protest of rosters must be submitted by 5pm on Monday before the State Tournament.
After 5pm on Monday of the State Tournament, rosters CANNOT be protested.
The only acceptable protest of a roster will be of a illegal player added to a team after 5pm on Monday before the State Tournament.
