Ippon Karate Academy aims to provide a safe and positive environment for students to evolve and grow in sport karate.
We are committed to creating a culture and environment that allows students to reach their goals and expand their karate skills in tournament disiplines. To uphold this vision it is important that everyone understands their responsibilities as set out in our Club's Code of Conduct & the Competitor's Code of Behavior.
It is a condition of all Ippon Karate competitors while attending tournaments or events to never act in a way that brings our club into disrepute.
All competitors must abide by the following expectations
Behaviour & Attitude:
- Always intereact with other competitors, team managers, referees, officials & coaches respectfully
- Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all students, instructors, coaches and officials
- Never engage in any form of harassment, aggressive behaviour, bullying or intimidation
- Discourage & avoid creating drama, stirring controversy or gossip
- Actively listen & take on feedback from coaches/instructors, with a goal of implementing that feedback into your kata or kumite
- Work independently on their kumite/kihon/kata whilst other students in the class are being assisted
- Attend every lesson with the willingness to learn and concentrate
- Always work co operatively & respectfully when in groups or with a partner
- Always display appropriate behaviour in class and never disrupt the class from their learning
- Attend events in a fit state, free from the effects of alcohol
- The taking of illicit and/or performance enhancing substances is banned. Refer to the WKF Anti Doping Policy for more information regarding banned substances. https://www.wkf.net/sport-antidoping
Compulsory Items & Equipment:
- Attend training sessions and tournaments prepared. This includes your pen, note pad, and your protective equipment
When Attending Events Including Tournaments & Seminars:
- Respect and abide by the AFK & WKF tournament rules and all officials decisions in competition.
- Never argue with any official/organiser or referee during competition. If the referee made a decision you did not understand, speak with your coach and together you can approach a referee for constructive feedback if required.
- All competitors must control their temper. Any disrepectful body language or verbal abuse of an official and insulting other competitors in not acceptable
- Never deliberately distract or provoke your opponent in competition
- Be a good sport. Applaud all competitors, whether they win or lose
- Treat all competitors, coaches, and officials as you would like to be treated
- Participate in tournaments for the competition and enjoyment, encourage others to do the same
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all competitors regardless of their gender, ability, martial art and cultural background or religion
- If a sensei from another dojo gives you feedback, say “ossu” respectfully. If you do not understand their feedback you can clarify with your dojo instructor
Hazards/Incidents:
- Inform the senseis of any concerns or incidents that occur in the the dojo or at events
- Immediately report to reception or the sensei if any potential hazards are observed at the dojo or at events

All competitors & squad members must comply with the the Competitor's Code of Behaviour at all times while attending any training sessions, tournaments and training seminars/gashuku's.
One warning will be given for breaches of this code. Failure to follow the Competitor's code of behaviour will result in the student not being permitted to enter tournaments and removed from the squad team if applicable.
In extreme cases of a breach, a warning may not be given and may result in immediate suspension from tournament competition, removal from the Squad and suspension or cancellation of the students membership.
Student's Declaration
I have read and understand the Competitor's Code of Behaviour and agree to abide by it at all times.
If I have any questions or are unsure of any of the above, I agree to talk to my coach/squad sensei.
