J Drugs FAQ’s
How is my insurance billed? How am I billed for co-pays?
J Drugs bills your insurance company directly as prescriptions are filled. Co-pays, deductibles, the cost of over-the-counter medications, and all uncovered medications will be charged to your credit card. J Drugs accepts all major prescription plans.
How much does J Drugs charge for this service?
When ordered on time, there is no additional charge to families. OSRUI is covering the $20 per camper J Drugs service fee for medication packaging and delivery to camp when medications are ordered by the appropriate deadline (May 1st for campers starting camp June 10th or June 25th, and June 1st for campers starting July 9th or July 31st). If prescriptions are not received by the appropriate deadline, families will be charged the J Drugs packaging and delivery fee of $20, plus an additional $25 rush fee.
What if J Drugs doesn’t carry my child’s supplement? Can I send it to you to package for camp?
Unfortunately, J Drugs cannot repackage vitamins, herbals and supplements. However, J Drugs carries a full line of well branded supplements that can be substituted with for campers.
What will my prescriptions cost me through the J Drugs program?
No different than your local pharmacy. Insurance co-payments and/or deductibles are determined by your insurance carrier and prescription coverage.
How will I be charged?
You will be billed directly by J Drugs.
What is the relationship between J Drugs and OSRUI?
J Drugs is an independent pharmacy that has been chosen by OSRUI to provide medication services for its campers.
How are the medications packaged?
Each dose of medication is sealed in a medication strip package with a detailed label that includes your child's name, date of birth, medications enclosed, date and time to be administered, and any special instructions. The camp staff tears open the perforated packet and hands your child the medications. Please note that only medications in pill form can be included in the dose strip. Liquids, inhalers, and creams are dispended and labeled separately and shipped to camp with your child’s other medications. Please only order liquid medication if the medication is not available as a chewable or melt-away.
Can J Drugs package OTC medications such as Benadryl or Claritin?
Yes. Please check the box for “Over the Counter” on the Medication Order Form, so J Drugs knows not to expect a prescription from your doctor. J Drugs will package these items with any prescription medications dosed at the same time of day.
Can J Drugs supply vitamins and supplements?
Yes. J Drugs offer a large assortment of vitamins and nutritional supplements. Please indicate your preferences when registering your child and you will be notified of any availability issues and check the box for “Over the Counter” on the Medication Order Form, so J Drugs knows not to expect a prescription from your doctor. J Drugs CANNOT package any gummy vitamins.
What if my child is prescribed a controlled medication such as Adderall or Concerta?
J Drugs must receive an electronic prescription (or original prescription if your doctor does not electronically prescribe) for all controlled medications prior to shipping the medication.
If your child is attending camp between June 10 – July 16th, ask your doctor to send in the prescription NOW with an effective date of your child’s first day of camp (June 10th or June 25th). If your doctor cannot change the effective date, in the directions or note field, the doctor needs to write “Camp Supply Effective [START DATE – either 6/10/24 or 6/25/24]”.
If your child is attending camp between July 9th and July 31st, ask your doctor to send in the prescription NOW with an effective date of July 9th and July 31st. If the doctor cannot change the effective date, in the directions or note field, the doctor needs to write “Camp Supply Effective [START DATE – either 7/09/24 or 7/31/24]”
If your child is going for the FULL SUMMER, ask your doctor to send in the prescriptions NOW. The doctor MUST supply TWO prescriptions – one with an effective date of 6/10/24 and one with an effective date of 7/09/24.
Will J Drugs dispense name brands or generics?
Unless the physician specifies “Do Not Substitute” or “Brand Only” J Drugs will dispense the generic. Many insurance plans will only pay for a generic. If you do not want a generic, please notify your physician in advance and please let J Drugs know as well. For OTC medications, generics will be provided unless you specify otherwise.
What if my child is at camp for longer than a month?
Your doctor can write most prescriptions with refills. For controlled substances, however, an additional 30-day prescription will be required: your doctor MUST supply TWO prescriptions – one with an effective date of 6/10/24 and one with an effective date of 7/09/24. Please see the FAQ about controlled substances, if applicable.
What happens to extra medications if my child is at camp for less than 30 days?
Any unused medications will be sent home with your child on the last day of camp.
We have a 90-day prescription plan/mandatory mail order. Can I still use J Drugs?
J Drugs can accommodate this situation with the proper planning. Please contact J Drugs immediately so that we can plan accordingly.
What time are medications dispensed at camp?
Medications are generally dispensed at meal times and at bedtime. Please make certain that your doctor indicates the time(s) each medication should be taken on the prescription so that camp can accommodate special requests. Campers who only take non-essential meds such as vitamins and 24-hour antihistamines are requested to take them at lunch or dinner. Because most campers must take their essential meds in the morning, this will expedite the medication distribution process for everyone.
[b] My child takes a different dose of the same medication every other day. Can it be packaged that way?
Yes. It is critical that your doctor provides a prescription written exactly how the medications should be given. J Drug pharmacists can only label a prescription according to the exact instructions of the doctor and the camp will dispense the medication accordingly.
What happens if I order late?
If your child’s medications must be sent in a later shipment, J Drugs will charge an expedite fee as well as shipping costs. Please note that in order to have your child’s medication ready and waiting in camp on Opening Day it is important that you submit your registration prior to the May 1st deadline for campers starting June 10th or June 25th and June 1st deadline for campers starting July 9thor July 31st.
What if my child’s doctor writes a prescription for a new medication after your deadline for registering has passed?
J Drugs will work with you to handle late medication changes. You may be required to send additional medications to camp with your child as a back-up, and additional shipping charges may be applied. If you anticipate a change in medication prior to camp, please complete and return the Medication Order Form prior to the deadline and include a note on the form that you are not sure of the dosage or medication.
