Rules
- The theme of all paintings will be Home is Where the Heart is
- Painting will take place on Wednesday, June 21 from 10am-4pm to be eligible for prizes.
- Subject matter must be appropriate for all ages and audiences.
- All paintings should be done safely on the assigned sidewalk, no street painting is allowed.
- The primary design must be created in the chalk paint.
- All painters must be pre-registered to win prizes and provide the following information:
- The names and ages of the artists participating
- The category they will be competing in (circle on the registration form)
- Contact information
- Painting supplies can be picked up in the Marquette Commons on Wednesday, June 21 from 10am-4pm.
- Each artist can have as much paint as needed, come back and get more as your needs come up. The art does not have to conform to any shape, use your creativity.
- No spray fixatives may be used.
- No materials may be used that emit offensive odors or cause potential annoyances to other artists or neighbors
- Artists must include a sponsor’s name prominently if one has been assigned, the Museum will write all sponsor's names on sidewalks to assure accuracy.
- Walk-ins are welcome but you must be registered (names on the registration form) to be eligible to receive prizes.
- Judging will be done virtually by our celebrity judges.
- Pictures and videos can be submitted in the following ways:

- Posted to the Facebook event page or
- Texted to (906) 281-6629 by
- Must be submitted by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21 to be submitted for judging.
- The Paint the Downtown with Love Chalk Art Festival has the right to use all art in future advertising; digital, media, online, print, sound recordings, etc. Digital photos will be taken during the event.
- Festival organizers and judges have the right to modify these rules as deemed necessary.

- Disposable latex gloves
- Kneeling pad
- Cardboard for protecting work in progress
- Small brush for sweeping drawing surfaces
- Painting brushes
- Rags or sponges for blending chalk
- Paper towels for making corrections
- Straight edge for making grid lines
- Sunscreen, hat, drinking water, long underwear, or whatever is appropriate for the weather
- Patience, good humor, and inspiration
- Plastic to cover in case of sprinkling or snow
- Pre-plan sketch
- Containers in which to mix paints
