  • We, the undersigned members of the Gresham Park community, hereby submit this petition to propose a change in the name of Flintwood Dr. SE to Patricia Johnson Way. This request is driven by the outstanding contributions and enduring legacy of a local trailblazer, Patricia Johnson, who has played a pivotal role in shaping our community through her forty-three-year success story.

Patricia Johnson has been a driving force in establishing and maintaining a black-owned childcare center in the heart of Gresham Park. What sets her achievement apart is the remarkable feat of sustaining a thriving business for over four decades without the need for advertising or a prominent sign out front. Her dedication and commitment to the Gresham Park community have been unwavering, making her an emblematic figure in our neighborhood.

Notably, Patricia Johnson held the record for operating her childcare center on Gresham Road for a longer duration than any other business in the area. Patricia's commitment to the education and well-being of our children stands as a testament to her enduring impact.

The significance of Patricia Johnson's contributions becomes even more apparent when we reflect on her role as an educator. Johnson’s Learning Center, founded by Patricia and Wesley Johnson, welcomed its very first student in August 1980, who subsequently graduated kindergarten in 1983. Remarkably, this student's youngest child graduated from JLC kindergarten in May of 2023, showcasing the multi-generational impact of Patricia's educational institution.

Beyond early childhood education, Patricia Johnson expanded her educational offerings by opening CEA for first through third grade students, further enriching the educational landscape of our community. Her tireless efforts have educated thousands of students over the years, instilling in them a love for learning and a strong foundation for future success.

In recognition of Patricia Johnson's exceptional contributions to the Gresham Park community and her enduring legacy as a trailblazer for the community, we believe that renaming Flintwood Dr. SE to Patricia Johnson Way is a fitting tribute. This change not only honors her years of dedication but also serves as a lasting reminder of the positive impact one individual can have on a community.

We, the undersigned, urge the relevant authorities to consider this petition with utmost sincerity and make the necessary arrangements to officially rename Flintwood Dr. SE to Patricia Johnson Way, commemorating a true pioneer in our community.

    Sincerely,

    Wesley Johnson
