    FAMILY VOLUNTEER CONTRACT
  • VOLUNTEER TASK DESCRIPTION AND TIME COMMITMENT

Productions such as The Nutcracker require many types of volunteers. Each cast member will provide a minimum of one family representative volunteer. These volunteer hours help to keep the cost of participating in our productions to a minimum! Each volunteer family representative will be asked to spend approximately 4-10 hours volunteering during theater week.

Please read the options below and indicate your choice/s.

    1. Move-in/pack-up and load out (2 hours move-in + 2 hours load out = 4 hours): This task requires some lifting of medium to heavy items. Only select this option if you are comfortable lifting. It can be especially useful if some helpers in this category have a pickup truck (not always needed). The commitment time for this job is usually the Sunday or Monday morning at the start of theater week, and the Sunday or Monday morning at the completion of theater week.

    2. Children Monitors (3-4 hours for a rehearsal and about 4 hours for a performance = 8 volunteer hours): This option requirers the volunteers to monitor children during the span of a performance as well as a full rehearsal evening during theater week. Please select this option if you are PARENTS OF BABY MICE, CAVALRY AND SOLDIERS. Female volunteers are preferred as the majority of children are girls. Male monitors for boys may be needed depending on the number of young boys in the cast.

    3. Costume changes/quick changes (3-4 hour for a rehearsal and about 4 hours for a performance =8 volunteer hours): This option must be carried out by volunteers with experience backstage. You will organize costumes, help dancers fasten tutus and other costumes, and carry out light hand sewing/costume repair (not required, provided we have at least 2 people who can sew) This job can require quick thinking in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

    4. Stage hands (3-4 hour for a rehearsal and about 4 hours for a performance for a total of 8 volunteer hours): This option must be carried out by volunteers with either stage/backstage experience who are willing to attend 1-2  rehearsals at the theater to learn tasks required. This job can require quick thinking in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

    5. Ballet Boutique (4 hours if one day, and up to 12 total, if doing all performances) This option requires TWO volunteers willing to curate, set up, and run ballet boutique in the lobby during performances, both prior to curtain and during intermission. One option is for one volunteer to be the manager with additional helpers to fill in. Set up and pack-up as well as transport items back to KB are required, as well as taking payments for merchandise.

    6. Stage Setup at the theater - Monday (first day) of theater week immediately following move-in (3-4 hours, or 6-7 if also helping to load and move into the theater) This task involves helping to organize sets and props and costumes: prepare dressing rooms, set up stage props, hang backdrops, lay the floor, clean the stage, and various other related tasks, along with other volunteers.

    6. Usher (30 minutes for one evening performance)

    7. Clara's Tea Party 5-6pm - Saturday of Nutcracker Weekend - (helpers arrive at 4 and clean up until 6:45). This volunteer option is typically carried out by parents of Dance Movement and Preparatory students who are not yet in Nutcracker cast, however, any cast family volunteers who are willing to put extra time in addition to their production volunteer hours are invited to do so with Clara's Tea.
