Are you passionate about pursuing a nursing career in Germany? Applications are now open for the 7th cohort of the Nursing Apprenticeship (Ausbildung) in Germany, implemented under the research project by Hochschule Koblenz in partnership with Mount Kenya University and AG-Career Hub. Since the programme began, 81 Kenyan apprentices have successfully been placed in Germany, where they are currently completing their nursing training. The next apprenticeship intake in Germany will begin in April 2027.

Please note: The application portal may close before the stated deadline if we receive a sufficient number of applications. We therefore encourage interested applicants to submit their applications as early as possible.
Eligibility Requirements
To apply, you must:
- Hold a German language certificate at B2 level (not older than one year)
- Have a KCSE certificate with a minimum grade of C
- Be 29 years or younger
- Be passionate about pursuing a nursing career
Selection Process
Step 1: Submit Your Application
Applications are accepted from 15 July to 31 July 2026.
Step 2: Aptitude Test
After the application portal has closed, applicants who meet the eligibility requirements above will be invited to complete an aptitude test assessing cognitive abilities, motivation for the nursing profession and readiness for intercultural integration.
Step 3: Interview
Candidates who successfully pass the aptitude test will be invited for an interview.
Step 4: Enrolment
Only candidates who successfully passed the aptitude test and the interview will be enrolled into the programme. Enrolment is based on the number of apprenticeship positions available with our partner insititutions in Germany.
Step 5: Pre-Departure Preparation
Enrolled participants will join a pre-departure preparation programme before relocating to Germany. The pre-departure programme combines in-person and virtual classes at Mount Kenya University's Thika Campus, Hochschule Koblenz and AG-Career which includes:
- Technical German (medical terminology and workplace communication)
- Basic nursing skills
- Intercultural preparation for living and working in Germany
During this period, participants will also receive support with the visa application process and the preparation of all required travel documents.
Your Nursing Apprenticeship in Germany
After successfully completing the pre-departure programme, participants will receive an apprenticeship contract (Ausbildungsvertrag) from their German employer.
The nursing apprenticeship lasts three years and combines classroom instruction with practical training in hospitals and healthcare facilities across Germany.
During the apprenticeship, participants will:
- Receive a monthly training salary
- Gain practical experience in different nursing departments
- Be employed by one of our partner healthcare facilities
- Receive ongoing support from our German and Kenyan partners throughout their integration and training
