• Call for Public Comment on Proposed Changes to the LCME Functions and Structure of a Medical School effective AY 2028-29

    July 22, 2026-September 22, 2026
  • You are invited to comment on the draft 2028-29 Functions and Structure of a Medical School (F&S), which represents an inflection point in the LCME Strategic Visioning initiative! The revisions to the LCME standards and elements are intended to clarify, streamline, and increase the transparency of accreditation expectations while sustaining the high quality of MD-granting educational programs in the context of a dramatically altered national and regional learning landscape.

The LCME and the LCME Secretariat extend sincere thanks to the three advisory groups (deans, medical education deans, student affairs deans/senior student services administrators) and their facilitators who contributed thoughtful and valued input, particularly to several accreditation elements linked to two of the top challenges identified by the LCME in June 2024: Challenge #1 (financing medical school/health care and organization models of medical education/interaction of health systems and medical education programs) and Challenge #3 (competition for clinical clerkship sites) and to accreditation standards focused on student services (Standards 10, 11, and 12).
