Jennifer and Brian Cummings Expendable Scholarship Application
Jennifer (Matteson) Cummings and Dr. Brian Cummings were both born and raised in Michigan and met in High School. They graduated in 1989. They followed each other to Eastern Michigan University that same year, the last year a student could attend EMU and graduate as a Huron! Jennifer received her degree in Hospitality Management and Brian earned a double major in Biochemistry and Toxicology in the Department of Chemistry. Jennifer graduated in 1993 and began a 20-year career in the hotel industry, including management of several hotels. Brian, a first-generation college student, graduated in 1994 and went on to earn his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Wayne State University. After living in Arkansas and South Carolina, they settled in Athens, Georgia to raise their family. Jennifer started her second career as an early childhood educator and Brian taught and conducted research at the University of Georgia. They moved back to Michigan in 2021 and currently reside in Royal Oak where they continue working in their chosen professions. They value honesty, family, friendship, hard work, dedication and determination. Their scholarship is intended to identify and aid students who exemplify these qualities.
