Post-Operative Lymphatic Massage Policies and Client Consent
POST-OPERATIVE LYMPHATIC MASSAGE POLICIES
1. Medical Clearance
Written clearance from your surgeon or treating healthcare provider is required before receiving post-operative lymphatic massage. You must follow all post-operative instructions, restrictions, and recommendations provided by your healthcare team.
Clearance does not guarantee that massage will be appropriate at every appointment. Your therapist may postpone or decline a session if concerns about your safety arise.
2. Health Information and Surgical History
You are responsible for providing accurate and complete information about your surgery, including the procedure performed, date of surgery, areas treated, and any complications or changes in your recovery.
Please disclose all relevant medical conditions, medications, allergies, blood-thinning medications, history of blood clots, infections, wound-healing concerns, and any drains or other surgical devices.
You must notify your therapist of any new or worsening symptoms, complications, medication changes, or changes in your medical clearance before each session.
3. Changes in Symptoms and Safety Concerns
If you experience new or worsening pain, unusual swelling, redness, warmth, fever, drainage, wound separation, or other concerning symptoms, massage will be postponed until you have been evaluated by your healthcare provider and cleared to resume treatment when appropriate.
Sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, or sudden one-sided leg swelling or pain may indicate a medical emergency. Massage will not be performed, and emergency medical care should be sought immediately.
4. Treatment Modifications
Post-operative lymphatic massage is performed using gentle techniques appropriate to the client's disclosed surgical history, current recovery, and documented medical instructions.
Treatment may be modified, postponed, or declined based on your condition, symptoms, surgical restrictions, or safety concerns. Your therapist will not perform techniques that conflict with your surgeon's instructions.
Massage will not be performed directly over incisions, open wounds, drains, or other restricted areas unless specifically appropriate and authorized under the healthcare provider's instructions and the therapist's scope of practice.
5. Appointments and Punctuality
Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late, your session may need to be rescheduled depending on availability. The full length of your service cannot be guaranteed if you arrive late.
6. Cancellations and Rescheduling
A minimum of 24 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment to avoid losing your deposit. Your deposit may be transferred to one future appointment in accordance with the business's cancellation policy.
If your healthcare provider advises you to postpone massage or you develop symptoms that make treatment unsafe, please contact your therapist as soon as possible. Your safety takes priority over receiving a scheduled service.
7. Confidentiality
Your personal and health information will be kept confidential and will not be shared without your written consent, except as permitted or required by law.
8. Professional Boundaries
All services are professional and nonsexual. Inappropriate, abusive, or sexual behavior will not be tolerated and will result in immediate termination of the session.

POST-OPERATIVE LYMPHATIC MASSAGE CLIENT CONSENT
1. Purpose and Scope of Service
Post-operative lymphatic massage is a gentle, manual technique intended to support lymphatic fluid movement and may help manage certain types of swelling or fluid retention during recovery when appropriate.
This service is intended to complement, not replace, your surgeon's instructions, medical care, or post-operative follow-up. Your massage therapist does not diagnose or treat medical conditions or surgical complications.
2. Medical Care and Surgical Clearance
I understand that I must obtain written clearance from my surgeon or treating healthcare provider before receiving post-operative lymphatic massage and follow all medical instructions and restrictions.
I understand that clearance does not eliminate all risks and that I must continue attending recommended medical follow-up appointments.
I agree to contact my healthcare provider regarding medical concerns or changes in my recovery rather than relying on massage therapy for medical assessment.
3. Potential Benefits and Limitations
I understand that post-operative lymphatic massage may help support fluid movement and may assist with certain types of post-operative swelling when medically appropriate.
Results vary from person to person. Massage cannot guarantee reduced swelling, improved cosmetic results, prevention of fibrosis, faster healing, or any specific surgical outcome.
4. Potential Risks and Side Effects
I understand that massage may cause temporary tenderness, discomfort, sensitivity, or changes in how the treated area feels.
Although gentle techniques are used, massage may not be appropriate during certain stages of recovery or with certain medical conditions. Potential concerns include aggravation of symptoms, interference with healing, or worsening of an underlying condition if treatment is performed when contraindicated.
I understand that additional medical evaluation may be necessary before treatment can safely proceed.
5. Client Responsibilities
I confirm that the information I provide about my surgery, recovery, medical history, medications, symptoms, and healthcare provider's instructions is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge.
I agree to notify my therapist of any new or worsening symptoms, complications, changes in medication, or changes to my medical restrictions before each appointment.
I understand that I must communicate any discomfort or concerns during treatment and may request that treatment be adjusted or stopped at any time.
6. Right to Refuse or End Treatment
I understand that I may decline or stop treatment at any time. My massage therapist may also stop, modify, postpone, or decline treatment if it is not appropriate or safe to proceed.
If medical concerns arise, I may be referred back to my surgeon or another qualified healthcare professional for evaluation.
7. Acknowledgment and Consent
By signing electronically, I confirm that I have read and understood these Post-Operative Lymphatic Massage Policies and Client Consent.
I acknowledge that I have had the opportunity to ask questions and understand the purpose, limitations, potential risks, and responsibilities associated with post-operative lymphatic massage.
I confirm that I have obtained the required written medical clearance and agree to follow my healthcare provider's instructions.
I voluntarily consent to receive post-operative lymphatic massage when my therapist determines that the service is appropriate and safe to perform.
