PETITION to our TVPOA BOD, AGREE TO REGULATION BY THE TPUC - NO LITIGATION!

The Tennessee Public Utility Commission (TPUC) is the oversight body that determines how utility ratepayers in the State of Tennessee should be charged for utility services. The Attorney General has initiated an investigation and is requesting that the TPUC establish its authority over Tellico Village’s water/sewer utility services provided to customers within our Village.

THE PROPERTY OWNERS OF TELLICO VILLAGE, NEED TPUC REGULATION PROTECTION ASAP!

 Here are some of the violations that have precipitated this action:

1)     No “Cost of Services Study” has been performed, which mandates that when rates are increased, they must be FULLY JUSTIFIED.  

 2)     Under utility regulation, $80 fee on our water bill is illegal.

 3)     Our RATES ARE SET BY OUR POA BOARD. Since 2019, the minimum monthly charge for water doubled ($17.45 to $38.00).  OUR WATER BILLS HAVE INCREASED about 170% during that same period.

 4)     Our latest 5 year POA budget includes, a 10% rate increase per year Our water rates WILL BE 61% HIGHER THAN TODAY'S COSTS!

 5)     The PROFITS OBTAINED from water rate surcharges should be used ONLY FOR THE UTILITY, not the ammentities or for TANASI REBUILD.

 6)     OUR POA HAS included the costs OF IMPROVEMENTS ON LOT OWNERS WHO ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE SYSTEM AND MAY NEVER BE.

 7)     Villagers were FORCED TO SIGN AN ILLEGAL CONTRACT. One refused and their water services twice were cut, for not signing it. This "contract" GAVE OUR POA UNLIMITED AUTHORITY ANY REASON TO DISCONTINUE service.

THE TPUC WILL NOT TAKE OVER AND RUN OUR WATER/SEWER UTILITY. We will just be required to follow their utility policies and practices.we need oversight for PROTECTION, ACCOUNTABILITY AND STABILITY.
