The Molokai Arts Center presents an afternoon of watercolors and fresh smoothies inspired by Molokai’s natural bounty. Learn Landscape/Floral Watercolor Painting in beautiful Halawa Valley. This class will be offered every third Sunday of the month, weather permitting.
Local artist Kalani Pruet, who prefers on-location nature observation and color mixing, will teach a 3-hour class right in his backyard. The class includes a smoothie and a painting demonstration. If you're lucky, you'll also get to taste fresh chocolates made from the cacao trees on his farm. Kalani will share fundamental watercolor techniques such as landscape sketching, silhouette and outline drawing, watercolor tiling and blending or layering methods. All painting materials are provided and each participant will take their piece of art home with them. Class size is limited to 10 students. ONE REGISTRATION FORM PER PERSON.
Kalani Pruet received a BA in Art at UH Mānoa, is a past member of the Lahaina Art Society and Oahu Watercolor Society, and a current member of the MAC. He is a watercolor enthusiast specializing in Landscape painting and a Kuleana landowner and descendant of Halawa Valley. He spends much of his time maintaining Halawa Tropical Flower Farm, harvesting and selling tropical flowers, bananas, and roots.
On your scheduled date, go straight to the Farm or meet at Halawa Pavilion by 10:45am. Give yourself about an hour to drive from Kaunakakai town, and watch for those 4-legged pedestrians. Note that cell service may not be available as you head farther east. Pack water and snacks/lunch as the drive is long and the workshop will go right through lunch. Don't forget to stop at Pu'u O Hoku Ranch gift shop on your way home!
