A Torchbearer is one who:
- is a member of Mortar Board (either collegiate or honorary) who is living or deceased;
- has made a significant positive contribution to the establishment, growth, longevity, prosperity, history, stewardship, operations, or visibility of Mortar Board, Inc. or the Mortar Board National Foundation; and
- has demonstrated reliable and consistent performance throughout her/his service to Mortar Board.
A Mortar Board member or chapter may nominate a member for consideration as a Torchbearer. All nominations will be referred to the Torchbearer Subcommittee, which will select 100 Torchbearers to be featured in our history, Mortar Board: A century of scholars….chosen for leadership…united to serve. The book will be released in 2017, and pre-order information will be available soon.
Consolidated nomination efforts are welcomed as these will undoubtedly provide more information about a nominee. More than one nomination per member is permitted. Each nomination may have an unlimited number of seconds or supporters. There is no limit on the number of members who may be nominated by a member or chapter.
Nominations are due on or before April 1, 2016.
Please note: The Torchbearer Subcommittee urges collegiate and alumni chapters to begin the process of selecting their own local Torchbearers to recognize in 2018 as a collateral celebration of Mortar Board’s National Centennial.
