Student Representative-at-Large Statement of Interest

Role Description

The Student Representative at-Large for the National Council is a one-year term as a voting member of the Mortar Board National Council. Responsibilities include:

Attend and actively participate in our monthly, virtual National Council meetings;
Participate in Mortar Board initiatives such as Mortar Board Week and virtual initiations;
Attend and lead portions of our the Special National Conference (each January) and the Annual National Conference;
Cultivate relationships with Mortar Board collegiate members through programs, conversations, social media, and other modes;
Co-Chair the Student Advisory Board;
Help transition the next Student Representatives at-Large to be elected in 2027; and
Champion Mortar Board and uphold the values of our Society.

Note: Candidates must commit to being present during all of the conference and submit a statement of interest prior to the election. The Conference Nominating and Credentials Committee will present candidates to the delegation for a vote during the conference.

Application Instructions

These are the steps necessary to put yourself in a position to run for the student representative position on the National Council:

1) Complete this form, called "Statement of Interest" and submit it on or before September 20th at 11pm (your time zone).

2) Complete Candidate slide template and submit it on or before September 20, 2026 at 11pm (your time zone). Candidates will have a chance to finalize their slides at the National Conference on Friday, September 25th.

3) Meet with members of the Conference Nominating and Credentials Committee at the National Conference.

4) Stand for election with other candidates during the conference by presenting a 90-second speech to the delegates assembled at the National Conference on Saturday, September 26, 2026.

Brief Statement of Interest - Your statement of interest will be supplied to the Conference Nominating and Credentials Committee.

A statement of interest should contain 1) why you are interested in the role; 2) your commitment to Mortar Board at the local (chapter level); and 3) a forecast of the ways you would contribute to the National Council of Mortar Board and be a strong advocate for Mortar Board National College Honor Society.

Statement of Interest

1) How would you contribute to the National Council and be a strong advocate for Mortar Board, Inc. both at the chapter and national level? Why are you interested in this role?

How will you serve Mortar Board at the local level (current chapter) and all students at the National Level?

2) What have been your significant campus and community activities? (Please limit to no more than seven)

List what you did to achieve in leadership and service or explain why you were selected to Mortar Board by the chapter before you.

3) Describe your college, work, internship, and other obligations from this September through September of 2027. How will you make Mortar Board a priority for both for your chapter and on the National Level?

If elected, you would serve for one year on the National Council. You will be expected to be at each monthly meeting (by video conference), the Special National Conference each January (virtual), the Annual Mortar Board National Conference (in-person in even years, virtual in odd years), and also attend other (virtual) Mortar Board events such as Mortar Board Week, National Virtual Initiations, etc.

Considering your other commitments (coursework, internships, work, etc.), do you have the capacity to make Mortar Board a priority for both your chapter and on the National level?
