    During Leadership Assembly, YRF (YMCA Retirement Fund) and the Great Plains Learning Center will offer 1:1 consultations with staff. If you would like to schedule a consultation, please select "Yes" below.

    If you select "Yes" to the Learning Center, a representative will reach out to schedule a time to meet during Leadership Assembly.

  • Pre-Conference Activities & Sessions

    On Monday, there are two social activities and two pre-conference trainings offered for attendees. Registration for these sessions is required to attend. Fees for social activities (golf/cave) will be paid on-site. You can also select "Not Interested" if you are not planning to participate in any of these activities/sessions. Monday night dinner is on your own. There will be a welcome social (cash bar) will be in the atrium from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

    Join us for a day of sharing and learning about how to meet the nutritional needs of kids in your community while supporting the YMCA's bottom line. Whether you are running a food program or are interested in starting one, we are excited to convene YMCA leaders from KS, MO & OK to share best practices and program expansion ideas and support.

    Leading with inclusion means working effectively with people of different backgrounds, experiences, opinions and perceptions. In this interactive five-hour course you will be able to develop an awareness of the different dimensions of diversity and how to apply those in your day-to-day work. Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

    • Define diversity and inclusion.
    • Recognize your dimensions of diversity and what influences those dimensions.
    • Explore dimensions of diversity and explore how they influence your perception of the world and how the world sees you.
    • Explain the benefits of diversity and inclusion at your organization.
    • Appreciate and have empathy for others’ dimensions of diversity and how this informs relationship-building.
    • Recognize opportunities for inclusive practices among all areas of opportunity in your organization and your community.

  • Workshop 1: Hot Legal Topics (2:00 and 3:45)

    Presented by Chris Hesse, Managing Partner, Hesse Graville LLC, and Deb Tallo Senior VP & CHRO, Gateway Region YMCA, this session will touch on numerous legal topics challenging Y leaders today.

    Workshop 2: Driving Deeper Value to Create Greater Connection (2:00 and 3:45)

    Presented by Joe Kovalcheck, National Director, Strategy & Quality Practices-Membership, YMCA of the USA. A successful value, pricing, and business model strategy ensures the Y fulfills its mission collectively and meaningfully in each community, while supporting financial sustainability and success. Join Joe as he reviews Y-USA's recent work in this area, key insights identified, and how your Y can strengthen its data-informed and mission-driven business model.

    Workshop 3: Custom Leadership Development Plans (2:00 ONLY)

    Presented by Audrey Dewes, Senior Director of Learning and Engagement and Amelia Wagner, Regional Training Manager, Great Plains Learning Center. Feeling overwhelmed by where to start with Leadership Development? A great path forward is to put our learning philosophy into action by creating a personalized development plan! We'll walk you through how this simple tool can keep you committed to your growth and development goals.

    Workshop 4: New Community Engagement Strategies (2:00 ONLY)

    Panel presentation showcasing two YMCA engagement programs:

    • Cole Berhorst, Sports Director, Jefferson City Area YMCA, on the YMCA Corporate Games, an engagement program that crosses both programming and membership engagement with local businesses and organizations.                        
    • Justin Herrell, Executive Director, Pat Jones Family YMCA, Ozark Regional YMCA, on the Community Triathlon, an engagement program that stretches across multiple community groups.

    Workshop 5: Facilitating Meeting and Groups (3:45 ONLY)

    Presented by Audrey Dewes, Senior Director of Learning and Engagement and Amelia Wagner, Regional Training Manager, Great Plains Learning Center. 

    Effective facilitation can improve efficiency, engagement and outcomes while reducing costs and frustrations.  This presentation will highlight the responsibilities of a facilitator and provide tips and tricks for how to succeed at the art of facilitation.

    Workshop 6: Building a Better Workplace Culture (3:45 ONLY)

    Presented by Cathie Degler, Vice President, Human Resources, Gateway Region YMCA. The changing economy has brought us out of nation-wide staffing shortages. The labor market has loosened and hiring staff may be easier. Now, how do you keep the great staff you hired? Learn leading practice of building a better workplace culture like onboarding new staff, employee mental well-being, and staff recognition programs.
