The Mississippi Main Street Revitalization Grant Program Act (MMSRG) is authorized through MS Senate Bill 2696 (2024) and authorizes the Mississippi Legislature (Legislature), as well as the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) through appropriations by the Legislature, to make grants available to eligible recipients for projects "leading to the revitalization of Mississippi's downtowns or communities". Eligible costs for the expenditure of grant funds include the acquisition of land and any improvements thereon, preservation of historic downtown structures and sites, and initiatives that will produce a revitalization to the economy of the historic downtown areas. Eligible recipients include Main Street Designated Communities, or local Main Street programs that have achieved and maintained Designated Community status by the Mississippi Main Street Association (MMSA), that is a good-standing member of the MMSA, has obtained Section 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or Section 501(c)(6) tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service, Main Street Network Communities, Main Street Association Communities, cities located in MS that otherwise meet the requirements of this act, and Business Improvement Districts that otherwise meet the requirements of this act. Proposed projects must be located on property owned by the state, a county government, a municipal government, a public school district, or a non-profit 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) organization. Applicant organizations must provide proof of their 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) status.
Submissions will be vetted and scored against criteria as established by the MS Legislature and as outlined in the MMSRG 2025 Application Instructions. Projects will then be presented to the Legislature for review and award determination. Awards/amounts will be determined by the Legislature, and no award is guaranteed to any applicant applying to MMSRG.
