The Ho‘o Lono Scholarship is one way Nā Leo TV is supporting Hawai‘i Island youth advance media careers! Ho‘o means "to make," and lono means "a report or news." This scholarship honors our belief in nurturing talent in broadcast, journalism, digital and creative media, and related fields to empower the next generation of storytellers in our community.
Eligibility Requirements
The Ho‘olono Scholarship is open to Hawai‘i Island youth who meet the following criteria:
- High School Seniors: Graduating from high school and accepted into a two- or four-year college with a major in a relevant field, or
- Current College Students: From Hawai‘i Island, enrolled in a post-secondary institution, and majoring in a relevant field, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Each year, Nā Leo TV awards multiple scholarships between $1,000 - $2,500 each, ahead of both Fall and Spring semesters to help support the educational goals of promising media professionals who will contribute to and enrich Hawai‘i's content ecosystem.
Application Requirements
To be considered, complete the application by Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 at 5PM and attach the following documents:
- A letter of recommendation from someone who can speak to your skills, character, and commitment to your field of study.
- Proof of enrollment or acceptance letter from the educational institution you are attending or will attend.
- Most recent academic transcript showing a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Optional portfolio of your work including media projects such as video clips, articles, photographs, or any other relevant work samples (recommended by not required).
Only completed applications submitted by the deadline will be considered.
Selection Proess
Applications will be reviewed by members of the Nā Leo Board of Directors and Executive Team, with consideration based on:
- Dedication to your field of study and community
- Academic performance
- Extracurricular invovement and achievements
Award Notification & Presentation
Scholarship recipients will be notified via email by Friday, January 10, 2025. Awards and scholarship checks will be presented in mid-January, along with an invitation to participate in an exclusive NLTV podcast.
