  • How to Draw Ourselves from the Inside Out // with Haley Josephs

    6:30pm
  • This How-To class will explore drawing ourselves from the inside out, that is, based heavily on our own inward emotions and intuitions of ourselves, starting from the core. It will rely on openness and mindfulness to access the deepest parts. The choice is up to each person if they'd like to take it literally or more experimentally.

  • How to Be a Dungeon Master // with Claire Lachow and Evan Morse

    6:30pm
  • Tabletop role-playing games have emerged from your mom's basement and into the light. "How to be a Dungeon Master" will lead participants through a short adventure. The workshop will give a brief overview of tabletop role-playing games and their history, teach participants how to run a game, and discuss the potential artistic implications of a collaborative role-playing system. We will also hopefully liberate a goose from magical bondage.

  • Roman Catholics to the Rescue: How to Reboot Pagan Votives and DYI Reliquaries // with Sheila Pepe

    6:30pm
  • "Man has lost his way, art is empty and lost its true purpose, the time has come to repent and renew ourselves to the debauchery of idol worship and pagan symbols” – Pappy Pepe II

This workshop is meant to enliven our making lives and renew our faith in the history of objects (and have some fun). It will begin with a short presentation considering the history and uses of Roman Catholic votives and reliquaries, then proceed to a hands-on workshop during which participants will design and craft their own personal versions. All work will be table top in size. All participants will need to bring a small trove of materials that includes: hard materials (things) that are structural, decorative, transparent, opaque (soft things can surely be added to the mix), connection devices and mediums for all materials, personal items intended for devotion, all tools that relate to the materials at hand.

  • How To Find Sanctuary in a Local, Accessible Experience of Nature, or Stardust Travel Agency // with Alex and Chris Chowaniec

    2-4pm
  • A workshop and one-on-one performance rooted in visualizing climate action through art. We guide each individual participant through the process of finding their own connection to nature and local trip planning via relevant, free resources. A takeaway journal with an extended guide will accompany. We will spend about 5 minutes with each participant, over a 2-hour period, operating with a combination of advanced sign-up and walk-in appointments.

  • How to Roll a Peach Across the Floor // with Alison Kuo

    3pm
  • Participants will collaborate to make rolling, swinging, and sparkling fruit and vegetable topiaries for a communal performance art feast at the finale of the workshop. Some food sculpting utensils and raw materials will be provided, but all are encouraged to bring more to contribute.

  • How To Listen Deeper // with Tigue (Matt Evans, Amy Garapic and Carson Moody)

    4pm
  • Based in the philosophies of composers Pauline Oliveros and John Cage, "Deep Listening: Everything We Do is Music" will be a hands on exploration of the sounds around us in everyday life, as well as those within our own bodies, confirming the title of the session. Through Pauline Oliveros' deep listening practices, participants will explore how their consciousness may be affected by profound attention to their sonic environment as they activate their own sounds within their bodies. We will also become contemporary music experts as we explore the beautiful sounds of found objects through graphic and text based scores of John Cage.

  • How to Read the Tarot // with Inka Essenhigh

2, 3, and 4pm (30 minute lectures beginning on the hour)
  • In Plato’s philosophy of Anamnesis, the human soul is immortal and is all knowing. But during the process of becoming incarnated we forget and sometimes lose sight of our true selves.

The Tarot is a system of symbols and images meant to stimulate “inner knowing”.

The Tarot helps you to ask the questions you need to ask in order to to achieve self realization and to replace old self images with new better images.

In the 2pm and 3pm classes, the Greater Arcana cards and their meanings will be introduced.
We will then do a simple 4 card spread and spend the remainder of the time practicing reading the meaning.

At 4pm we will review the Greater Arcana cards and work with the Celtic Cross spread.

  • How to Draw With Others // with Caroline Chandler and Jennifer Coates

    3:15pm
  • In concordance with their two-person show at Crush Curatorial, "Electric Mayhem," Caroline Chandler and Jennifer Coates will facilitate a collaborative drawing session among all participants.

  • How to Let the Weight Do the Work // with Fiona Lundie

    3:30pm and 5:15pm
  • In this workshop, Fiona Lundie will lead participants in movement exercises inspired by her long-time training with Abby Zbikowski to achieve the explosive power and rhythmic clarity exhibited in the work of Abby Z and the New Utility. These exercises focus on concentrating effort and stability into the center of the body and releasing superficial, peripheral muscles to mobilize the weight of the body efficiently and effectively. The drilling of various (fairly) simple, repetitive movements in a group atmosphere to a driving musical beat serves to attune dancers not only to their own bodies but to each other, forging the communal bonds needed to survive the intensity of the work, such as “abandoned playground” (2017), video of which will be displayed in the museum's exhibit. No prior movement training is required for participation in this workshop. Attire that does not restrict movement range and tennis/running shoes are recommended.
