    Welcome to Natural Hair Scholars. Natural Hair Scholars is a hands-on, 10-week educational program designed to teach youth the fundamentals of natural hair care and styling in a supportive, professional salon environment.

    Classes is conducted on Mondays from 9am-2pm.

    Meet Tyra “The LocsSmith” Harper — a salon owner, natural hair educator, and mentor with over 15 years of experience in the beauty industry. As the owner of The LocsSmith Hair Studio and founder of Natural Hair Scholars Summer Camp, Tyra is passionate about using beauty education to empower and inspire the next generation.

    Over the years, Tyra has provided one-on-one training and mentorship to aspiring locticians through LocsSmith Academy, helping beauty professionals strengthen their skills, confidence, and professionalism in natural hair care, locs, braiding, and styling. She is currently preparing to relaunch LocsSmith Academy as a year-round educational program open to all ages.

    Tyra has also served as a beauty team lead for high-end fashion shows and editorial shoots, bringing creativity, leadership, and professionalism to every project. Her industry experience includes participating in hair shows and contributing to events connected to New York Fashion Week and Michigan Fashion Week.

    Known for her leadership, creativity, and commitment to youth development, Tyra created Natural Hair Scholars to give students a hands-on experience that blends beauty education, entrepreneurship, life skills, and cultural pride — all while staying “Rooted in Knowledge.”

    Refund Policy: Due to limited seating and the upfront cost of customized student supply kits, all enrollment fees are strictly non-refundable after the first day of class.
    Spots are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We can't wait to welcome your future stylist!
