The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Harrisburg Chapter (NCBW Inc. Harrisburg Chapter) is accepting applications for our 2025 Brenda Barrett Advocacy Scholarship Award.
The mission of NCBW Inc. is to advocate on behalf of black women and girls to promote leadership development and gender equity in the areas of health, education, and economic development.
Ms. Brenda Barrett was a chartering member of NCBW Inc. Harrisburg Chapter who had a passion for inspiring and educating women and girls through our mentoring initiatives. We are pleased to offer this scholarship in her memory. Our scholarship award was created to help support the efforts of high school female students of color, pursuing a degree at a 2 or 4-year college. Three (3) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to deserving high school graduates.
Completed application and all supporting documentation, must be received on or before April 15, 2025.
*Please ensure that all documents are submitted together with the exception of official transcripts which must come from school personnel.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a female student of color who will graduate from high school in 2025.
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Must have performed at least 20 hours of verifiable community service with an established organization.
- Plans to enroll in a full-time technical, associate or baccalaureate degree program in the fall of 2025.
- Must reside in Central PA.
Submission Requirements and Documentation:
- Must submit a completed application on or before April 30, 2025.
- Official transcripts must be received by the application deadline.
- Electronic transcripts submitted directly from graduating high school are acceptable. Transcripts submitted via email must be sent to: ncbwhbgscholarships@yahoo.com
- Essay - Please only select one (1) essay question from the list. (500 words max, Times New Roman font 12, Double spaced)
- Please tell us a unique story about yourself and how has it shaped you into the person you are today?
- What qualities do you have that are important to do advocacy work?
- How can you as a high school/college student be an advocate?
- 4 x 6 color photo (if selected as a winner the photo will be shared by our organization with your consent.)
- Proof of graduation must be provided before funds are released.
PLEASE NOTE: All information provided to NCBW Inc. Harrisburg Chapter in this application is confidential and will not be shared externally.
*Children of active and current members of NCBW Inc. Harrisburg Chapter are not eligible to receive scholarship awards by our Chapter.
