Purpose:
The purpose of this award is to recognize and promote excellence in teaching and service to the profession. The awardee will receive a check for $1,000 from NEA-NM and will be nominated for The California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence. This individual will also be eligible for The Horace Mann Awards for Teaching Excellence cash award of $10,000 and The NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence cash award of $25,000, a commemorative plaque and national recognition.
An honoree from each region will be selected and receive a $250 cash award. There will be a total of five awards – one finalist and four honorees acknowledged by NEA-NM. Only the finalist will be eligible for The California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence, The Horace Mann Awards for Teaching Excellence, and The NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence competitions.
Selection Criteria:
The nominees must:
➢ be active members of NEA and NEA-NM for a minimum of three years
➢ complete attached application documents
➢ submit three letters of recommendation with the application
Selection Process:
The Region Chair and volunteer or an elected committee of 3-5 (one being the Region Chair), will review the applications and make a recommendation for awardee from their respective regions. If Region Chair or a family member is nominated, the Region Chair will remove him/herself from the selection process. This list will be submitted to the Recognition Committee of the Board of Directors of NEA-NM. The Recognition Committee will review the applications and make a final recommendation to the NEA-NM Board of Directors of a finalist and 4 runners up.
Deadlines:
All NEA-NM nomination materials must be submitted via this form by the Monday before Thanksgiving, November 23. Region Chairs must submit approved nominations to NEA-NM President by December 11.
